Almost forgot another milestone

Last week the Morgan Ingram Blog went over 1/2 million views for the week, and I was too busy dealing with hackers of Morgan’s Blog too share.  But someone on their way home from shopping stopped her stalker in his tracks. And a small radio station began to raise awareness of crimes reported in one Sheriff’s district and ignored right next door. I applaud you all for your concern. The time to take stalking seriously has arrived. Remember that Morgan loves you for your efforts!  And the next victim we help could just be you. Share Morgan’s stalking with your friends. We all will make a difference!!!

October 27, 2011 – Day 87 of Morgan’s Stalking

Wylah on a leash out in the grass

Morgan had settled into a routine with her puppy, in order to avoid accidents, she got up whenever the puppy first whined in the morning, and took her out in the backyard to go potty.  This was working well, and Wylah was sleeping in a little later all the time, and Morgan was really happy about that.

This particular morning Wylah decided that at 5:45 am she has to go out.  The sun has not even begun to get up at this time, and it was still very dark out.  Morgan has an uneasy feeling as she opens the door to let her puppy out, and she stops (intuition kicking in), putting Wylah on a 15 foot leash, that is on the floor right by the door.  Then she stays right in the doorway, letting her out the back sliding glass door, so Wylah can have her run of the grass, and reach her favorite spot.

As Morgan crouches, and watches her puppy frolic she becomes aware of something – it’s on her left side toward Rhonda’s house.  She looks and sees a person, a male, dressed in all black, standing just outside the 3 foot high fence between our BBQ and a post holding up the roof.  He was not there when she came to the door, he has just appeared.  He is standing still and watching her.  He does not say a word.  She reels the leash in, dragging her puppy as fast as she can, and sliding the door closed with her knee at the same time.  There is a trail of urine across the patio, and into the house from the puppy.  She closes, and locks the door, and runs to our bedroom doorway and drops to the floor. She is so badly shaken and scared.

She sat there, in our doorway, because from there she could see most of the house and all four doors.  He was gone now.  She could look over at the conga drums, by the door, and see a pepper spray can and a mag light sitting there.  There was also another pepper spray on the kitchen bar top, and one up by the front door.  She sat there for an hour with her puppy on her lap, and watched out the windows for something moving.

Steve woke up, and immediately wondered what was wrong.  Morgan told him what had happened, and burst out crying, I woke up hearing her explaining to her dad.  Steve can see how upset and frightened she still is, and holds her.  Wylah whines and paws at them.  I am furious and looking for somewhere to aim my furry.

I call the sheriffs department, can’t remember if it was Detective Glassmire or dispatch that I spoke to.  I don’t remember anyone coming, but sometimes the memories are sharp and written down in black and white, and others, they are more of a blur, like this morning was.

We had a motion detector for exactly that area, and the night before Steve had taken it inside to repaint it a camouflage color. What the hell? How did the stalker know the detector was gone? Steve thought when painted the detectors would be harder to see, at least they wouldn’t be bright white, and not so obvious that way.  But is that all this took?  We take the detector down for one night and there he is the next morning in the area the detector would have alerted us to.  Does he watch this closely, or was it a coincidence?

Steve and I avoided the spot he was standing, because we had some delusional fantasy the officers with crime scene kits might show up, and thoroughly investigate the area.  Nobody came, nobody was coming.  Steve and I got on hands and knees and searched ourselves – any little speck of something.  Of course I have been since told that if I had found anything I would have destroyed the chain of custody.  Why would I be surprised, nobody will ever look, but if I do and find something, it’s worthless as evidence.  That is what I mean when I say the laws favor the stalkers.  So, as I understand it now we could have shot him if he were two steps closer, and up on the porch, but if I pick up his cigarette butt, no good.  I am telling you all of this to try to help others out there – before this happened to our family we had no idea of how to handle this type of a situation.

Steve waits a while and asks Morgan if she knew who it was.  She is not certain, she thinks it is Keenan, but she also does not want to try and picture him, so Steve tells her not to, that it is over now, and she made an unbelievably good choice by following her intuition and letting Wylah out on a leash, and staying inside the house.

This afternoon I saw my therapist again, and again, she was really helpful – she tries to help me figure out how we can help this situation by catching Morgan’s stalker – she throws out new ideas that are really helpful.  As expected, nobody is coming over because Morgan is not 100% sure that it was Keenan that she saw, and if she were to just compose a letter and send it to the detective we were told that will be fine.

melancholy day

I tell Morgan about writing a letter and I could see the disappointment in her face.  I try to cheer her up, but it is too late.  That she feels like she is getting the brush-off is all too obvious.  We had a melancholy day together, and Morgan did a lot of knitting on the couch, with all the window curtains and blinds closed.  Our house is no longer bright and cheery – it’s now all about blocking out the prying eyes of a stalker.

Morgan went to see her friend later on to just get out of the house.  I was extra worried about her, but trying to remain calm.

I text Morgan to see when she is coming home, it’s now right before 10 pm, she is driving my car as usual and has her puppy with her.  She leaves Carbondale to head home on the “back” road, it is a two lane, county road, hill on one side, and a small drop off on the other.  It’s – County Road 100, Carbondale, Colorado – if you want to see it on Google maps.

As soon as she passes the first pull-off area, a car pulls in behind her, she thinks right away it is Keenan’s car, so she slows way down, so he will go around her, but he does not, he stays right behind her, no matter how much she slows down.

When she is going really slow another car catches up to both of them, and in the back window she can see the car’s headlights illuminate the car behind her, and she can see that in the car following her there is one person, a male, driving the car.  Once again she thinks it is Keenan, and she can see the car is green like his, but she is not 100% sure that it is him.

She speeds up, and no matter how slow or fast she goes, he is right behind her.  She turns left into our subdivision, and turns around to see the driver, it is Keenan, and for the first time she can say she is 100% sure.  Morgan races home, and she can tell that Keenan has continued on County Road 100.  She pulls up in the driveway.  She is extremely upset! Steve goes out into the street to be sure he didn’t change course to follow her home, but no one was there.

I called the sheriff’s dispatch and tell them what had just happened, and how Morgan was frightened and forgot to call until right before she got home, so as soon as I knew she was safe, I called them.  They explain to me that it is too late now, there is nothing they can do.  She needs to call 911 next time, while actually being followed, or if she sees someone that shouldn’t be there.

Morgan is extremely upset, and is crying.  She wants to know why it’s always up to her to do everything, while they do nothing.  I don’t have an answer for her.  Detective Glassmire sent me an email last night that I read at lunch.  He said how he knows how frustrating this is, but they are getting close to making an arrest.  And that was before what happened today – happened.

We all decide Morgan will no longer let her puppy out if it is dark out – she will wake us up to do it.  Morgan is getting really stressed over all of this happening – can’t sleep at night, and is always exhausted.  Morgan doesn’t want to be home, but she does not want to be forced from her home by this guy.  Steve again suggests that perhaps she should just go to her Godfather’s home in Hawaii.  Morgan says she can’t, she just can’t, school is not over yet, but will be soon.  We are really at a loss over what to do now.

Today is October 16, 2012 – When I reviewed the emails and notes and text messages, I had a thought.  This was a busy day of terrorizing from Morgan’s stalker, and no response from the sheriff’s, not one visit in person.  But the strange thing is our detective is laid up for a few days and if a stalker knew this and wanted to raise cain, today would have been the day. But that’s too far fetched isn’t it?  That would mean he knew, had some inside line.  I’m not saying the sheriffs were in on this, just that maybe intel was making it to the wrong ears without their knowledge…just a thought.

October 18, 2011 – Day 78 of Morgan’s Stalking – Who can this be? BTW I grant you all permission to give me your opinion!

Normal was a different word now.  Morgan had an appt. with her dentist.  Steve was going to drop off a trailer for someone to use after work.  My daughter-in-law had a birthday and Steve and I were going to be normal grandparents,  babysit while “the kids” went out for a dinner alone.  And Morgan would not be home, so it all could work out.  it all sounded so, “normal”.

Morgan came home from her dental appointment and was getting ready to go out for the evening.  At least until we came home.  She was cleaning up her room, and amassing a pile of laundry in the hall.  Sometimes her room looked like the proverbial bomb had just gone off, and sometimes it was quite organized.  Today it was moving toward organized.  She loaded the washer and left for Carbondale.  A little later, just before four she texted me, “What time do you need me?”

I did not see it, and didn’t answer until 5:02 pm when I said, “Don’t worry about it we are taking the truck now to drop off the trailer”.  Morgan answers, “Sweet. :)”, she was with her friends in Carbondale, and Steve and I were on our way to Glenwood Springs.  It was the first time we got to babysit while our son and his partner went out to dinner and we were very excited about babysitting our grandchildren.  We were very engaged with the grandkids, and not thinking of very much else.

Then Morgan made a mistake – a mistake that stalking victims inevitably face during their stalking.  She felt it was getting so back to “normal” and she decided that it would be okay to come home alone, for a just a few minutes, to switch her wash and grab something to eat, even though we had asked her to never go home alone.  She is home alone, busy going from her room to the laundry room, when she hears our dog Tessi growling, and barking furiously, and throwing herself at the front door.  She is frightened, stays inside her room, locking the door, and piling whatever she can if front of it.  Morgan tries to call us on the cell phone, but we don’t answer.  Cell service is not the best at our son’s house.

She stayed in her room until Tessi stopped barking, and attacking the door.  She thought it was about five minutes.  She carefully ventured from her room and saw Tessie sitting quietly at the front door, looking out.  There was no tail wagging, only intent starring.  Morgan looked out the door, and saw nothing.  She ran through the house and turned on every outside light she could think of.  Stood at the front door for a while, and then with pepper spray ready, and keys in the other hand she ran out to the car, hopped in, and locked it.  She drove out of the subdivision and decided to take the highway back to Carbondale instead of the back road, the highway had more lights and people. She wanted to be with other people – she felt safer with others than by herself in her own house…

Morgan called again and this time I answered.  I felt sick as she explained that she had gone home to switch the wash, just for a minute, and Tessi was barking like, “none other.”  She said we might want to check the cameras when we got home.

Ryan and Leesa got home from a great dinner at 8:10 pm.  We had a quick slice of cake with them and said we had to leave.   At 8:22 pm I texted Morgan, “On our way home.”

At home everything looked normal, and Steve and I went straight for the cameras to see what had caused our dog to bark like that.

We have six video cameras, and 3 of them will catch different parts of the street in front of our house.  First there is the task of seeing what, if anything, was causing poor Tessi to get so upset.  We were rolling through hours of video before we found this.

Car pulls in Driveway and leaves from on Vimeo.

Much later after we have the whole sequence of where this car was at what times and the two times that it came into our driveway, I felt it was trying to block Morgan in by pulling up right behind her car.  And all of the other places it had stopped around the neighborhood, Steve wanted the latest picture from Keenan’s facebook that we had him leaning against the front of his car so we could compare the front of the car that was in our driveway and it’s grill.  He held the picture along side the monitor, and felt it certainly could be Keenan’s car.  Plus the detectives had just told us there were very few of that exact model with that grill in our valley and the next valley over, strictly by registration records.

Once we had a time of one event it was then easier to search in ten minute segments from camera to camera and a few minutes later we were watching this.

Suspect in the driveway from Morgan’s Stalking on Vimeo.

The motion detector on the camera detects motion for this entire time however the person is only visible for the 2nd half.  I posted the entire time even though most of you will not see anything for the first half.  Please note this person appears to be LEFT HANDED.  Many people wrote in to me to tell me this after viewing this video…another important clue.

No wonder Tessi was so upset, and no wonder this person was afraid to approach the house.  Tessi is for the most part pretty calm, but I can only imagine that if you were up to no good and approaching our front door, which is beveled glass, and a 160 pound dog was smashing against it from inside you, would think twice before getting any closer.

I called the sheriff’s dispatch and told them what happened, but no need to send anyone as it was over, the detectives can take it from here.  I wondered aloud to Steve as we replayed the video – what if our 160 lb. dog hadn’t been throwing herself at the front door?  Would this person have tried to come in to get Morgan?  What was in his hand that was in his pocket and what was small, black object in his other hand? Was it a taser gun, or a real gun, or just a cell phone?  Does this show the stalker is left handed?

Our neighbor Elliott called and he wanted to know what’s happening.  I texted him back and said, “The guy drove up our driveway and then turned left and came back up our driveway and looked in our front door window at 7:42 pm tonight when after Morgan came home alone – we weren’t here and Tessi (our dog) went crazy at the front door when she saw him coming up through the beveled glass window, and scared the guy off.”  Elliott wrote back, “So he knew she was home, but not you?”  I wrote Elliott back, Yes, he drove up within 15 minutes of her getting home, pulled out and then drove back left again toward Equestrian Way and then came back on foot right up our driveway one hand in his pocket and one hand with a cigarette or something black, looking all around, as if to make sure no one was watching.  Elliott wrote back, “What kind of car?”  I said, “not 100% sure yet, but it was smaller than my LR3.”  (Later on I told Elliott that we can see the exact shape of the front of the car as well as the grill, which is very unique – it is the same year, same model as Keenan’s car)

Elliott wrote back, “Please have her call us and we can look for him, or his car, or come over to help!  Whatever we can do!”  Then at 10:06 pm he texted, “Did the police come?”

I answered, “No, I asked them not to send a patrol officer.  I am just waiting to talk to the detectives that are assigned to her case.  The yellow lab down the street was sniffing under Morgan’s window (caught on the camera) after the guy left so I don’t think the dogs can scent him.”  Elliott wrote back, “Just thought of something.  I might have been a foreclosure looky loo.”  I wrote back, “Not this guy, he was young and squirrely.  Maybe a delivery guy, but I still think that’s a little iffy.”

Morgan came home and was absolutely sick watching the video.  She said she was in the laundry room a lot, bent over sorting and folding and switching machines so from where he was he was just waiting for her to see him.  I thought how crazy the best part about this is Morgan had no idea what was going on at that time.  Steve told her that if anything at all happens like this to go into our room lock the door and watch on the cameras.  You can see what is happening all around the house.

There was a knock at the door and it was a deputy.  He had spoken with someone and they wanted him to come by anyway.  At that point all of us were pretty convinced it was Keenan’s car, but Steve did not think it was Keenan, Morgan and I did.  Steve said that the most innocent explanation here is a delivery person, but I don’t think so.  He felt in any event that it would be easy enough to check out tomorrow.  The deputy really thought he was a delivery person, even pointed out where he was checking for an address.  Steve told him it would be easy enough for the detectives to check with the 6 or so neighbors and see if anyone was expecting a delivery and then check with the few places that actually deliver out here.  That would not be many phone calls to confirm yes or no for sure instead of always guessing.

The deputy left and Steve thought it would be good if Morgan slept in our room and he slept on the couch.  I didn’t think Morgan would agree and she did not.  She went to her room and at 11:14 pm texted that, “I just heard noises outside my window.”  By the time I texted her back, “Got it” Steve had been out the door for a long time, with no pepper spray, but wielding a baseball bat instead.

When he finally came back in we argued for a long time about the person being Keenan or not.  I had watched it over and over while he was gone.  Light was on in that front room and then it went off Steve had told me.  And no green car in their driveway.

Today is October 11, 2012 – In the many months since this video I have come to agree with Steve, that this is, in all probability, Keenan’s car, but Steve thinks it is not Keenan – he thinks it’s someone Keenan knows trying to set up an alibi, the detective, Morgan and I believe it’s Keenan.  He had a thought late the evening this happened.  What if “they are all freaking out” we still never found out who they are, but what if to diffuse attention he was smart enough to have someone else drive his car into the driveway.  What if that would be all it would take to throw the sheriffs department completely off the trail on a night he was gone.  We were pretty sure the car was Keenan’s as the unique grill and shape of the car was an exact match and the person up the driveway looked just like Keenan, and he was wearing the exact shirt Keenan was wearing in one of his online social media posts, what do you think?

In September 2017 Crime Watch Daily did a 4-part series about Morgan’s stalking and murder, and on Part 4, on their Facebook, you can watch and hear Detective Glassmire interrogating Keenan Vanginkle about this exact incident of stalking, 5 months AFTER her murder, making it VERY CLEAR that he believes it IS KEENAN, and he IS STILL A SUSPECT https://www.facebook.com/crimewatchdaily/videos/1758045480886903/

October 15, 2011 – Day 75 of Morgan’s Stalking – More Eyes Watching

pumplin carving 2011

We went to the pumpkin patch early, all of us, along with our two grandchildren.  Morgan loved the picture taking opportunity, and for Morgan to spend time with her little niece, Joni, was special for Morgan, they were getting closer all the time.  Her nephew Odin was still a little too young, but Morgan thought Odin was going to be just like her when he grew up – even his little feet were like hers and they had the same color hair…she adored him.

Back at home I we had plans to meet Detective Glassmire after twelve, and we zeroed in on after 3:00 pm.  When he came to the house at 3:30 with more interesting news.  He had spoken with Brooke about the rumors we were hearing in the neighborhood concerning Morgan and the stalker, and what things she had spoken to others about.  He said that Brooke told him that she gets all of her information from her mom.  Then he went and talked with Brooke’s mom, asking her the same question.  Brooke’s mom in turn said the exact opposite – that she gets all of her information from Brooke – so who’s zooming who?

I expressed to the detective that obviously one of them, if not both were not being truthful, and I was curious as to what he was going to do next.  He said he had decided to let it go for now and revisit it later – why?  He was concerned that Brooke was under eighteen, and he needed to have her father right there to question her, and it had to be done just so.  I didn’t really understand, but I dropped it as well.

Then we discussed the conversation I had had with Elliott and all of the ways that it could be taken.  I thought it would be very positive for Detective Glassmire to question Elliott, particularly about the “they” part of the conversation, as in “they were freaked out,” it had a feeling of guilt to me, and the detective agreed.  But then he did not want to tip off Keenan, or the Harris’ about exactly what we are thinking, better to keep them in the dark.  I told him I really thought Keenan already knew that they were watching him, and that they were trying to talk to him.  And now that he had moved out it might become more difficult.

They had never actually been able to talk with him while he was living in Brooke’s dad’s house with Brooke, and I asked Detective Glassmire if they knew where he had moved to.  The detective said they didn’t, but that they would start checking into it.

That night we all went to a birthday party for a friend of mine.  Steve and myself, with Morgan and Danny.  It was great fun to be out of the house, and at first Morgan had been concerned about how late we were going to stay, as she thought it might be not her cup of tea – Morgan usually did not go birthday parties for my friends with us.  But Danny said he would like to go and after a while she was having a great time, and kept saying how she didn’t think she was going to like a “Grown up party,” (I guess she meant with older people), but was finding fascinating people, and having some really intense conversations.

Steve and I talked about how much she had grown, and watched her mingle.  When we were getting tired, and looking to go, it was Morgan who wanted to stay, we had to promise to bring her with us to the next party before she would leave.  Morgan loved intellectual conversations, and she said this was the first time in a long time she felt she was really satisfying that.

At 8:32 pm, while we were gone, the video surveillance recorded the rear light going on twice.  We reviewed the cameras and did not see anyone.

We now had an extra set of eyes in the neighborhood.  A couple was staying next door for a few days, and their hours were completely different from ours.  They liked to sleep more during the day, and then stay up all night.  They could not patrol much, but they were trying to keep a look out for anything that happened outside or around our house all night.  They had Steve’s cell number, and would call him if they spotted anything outside.  It just figures that they were here to possibly spot something from next door when one of the suspects had just moved out.

(Police reports later show the “suspect” was not working on 10.15.2011)
