November 12, 2011 – Day 103 of Morgan’s Stalking – What are the streaks?

Last night we had an event that I forgot to put on the blog.  It would normally be an upsetting, frightening ordeal.  But on day 102 of a gang stalking, it was something to sigh, and laugh at -how strange your world can become.  At 8:00 pm Morgan was getting ready to go out. The last few days have been good to her, and I don’t want to be the one to ruin it,  but I am watching the live feed from outside her window.  With the addition of the separate Morgan outside cam, Steve has been able to go to synchronized times, and detect the “movement toward her window on both cameras.  Once he showed me what to look for any streaks – like things hitting Morgan’s window, I can see it also.  I am watching the camera and it happens right now as I know she is dressing to go out.  It angers me and I head straight for her room and knock.

Morgan is just finishing up, and burst out the door (music playing in the background) just as radiant as I have ever seen her.  She is smiling and happy and I almost feel guilty about an email I sent to Detective Glassmire where I worried about how she was taking all this, and I wanted him to see if Detective Alstatt would take her on the side for a little talk so we could have her opinion.  Detective Glassmire felt Detective Alstatt was “Really good at this” and a mother can never be too safe with her kids, so I had set that wheel in motion.  As I looked at her now I knew what Detective Alstatt would say, but like I said, you can never be too safe.

Morgan wondered what was up and the first thing that came to mind was that (obviously she had not heard any banging), so I wanted to say good bye, and hoped she had a good time, so I did.  Morgan looked a little perplexed for an instant before bursting into a broader smile, and said, “Thanks mom.”  I walked her to the car, and stood there watching her drive away.  So easy to feel it is all over, your mind begs you to do it, countless times every day, and this was certainly one of those times.

Morgan waved from the street, and I watched her speed up as she drove for the end of the street.  I didn’t move, just stood there and watched, not sure what I was thinking.

And then just like that, one snap of the fingers, and all that warm fuzziness was gone, completely replaced.  A car had come from the right (on the right was the dead end of our cup-de-sac), very slowly at first.  I could not see anything of the inside (it was dark out), and now it was rapidly accelerating toward Morgan, she was just turning the corner at the end of the block.  I cried out, to anyone and turned for the house, yelling for Steve who came running from the room wondering what was wrong.  I didn’t feel like the words came out correctly at all, but Steve understood it just fine, a car was following Morgan and as I heard his words to call dispatch I heard the front door slam, then his truck screeching down the driveway.  Dispatch was speed dial #1 and I could still hear all the commotion he was causing out in the street, as I was connected to an all-too-familiar voice.

But instead of her normal concern and rapid fire questions for information, I heard her saying it is OK, everything is fine Mrs. Ingram, just fine.  I told her no it was not, Morgan was just followed out of the cul-de-sac and my husband is in hot pursuit, we need officers, now.

She was silent for a half-breath and then came back, that it is their car following Morgan, they had a tip.  You better call your husband and tell him what is up.  I slammed the phone down not sure whether to be happy or outraged.  Why could they not tell us, I told the empty house.  I was dialing Steve’s cell phone and hoping this was one of those times it went right through, because sometimes it took a few tries.

Then it was worse, I heard his phone ringing from somewhere in the house.  Of course he had not stopped to grab it, he was after whoever was after Morgan.

According to Steve the car chasing her caught up to her just as they were approaching another deputy up off the side of the road.  He wouldn’t say how fast he was going at the time, just that it was as fast as his truck would go.  The chase car pulled over alongside the deputy that was already parked and they all had begun to frantically wave him down.  He slowed and then slid as he came to a stop alongside them all.  Steve pointed at Morgan slowly driving away, apparently she had not seen anything that was going on behind her.  Then Steve pointed at the unmarked car as it pulled away and the deputy explained it was one of theirs and they were just being cautious.

Steve said he told them something like too much caution is better than not enough, but all he really remembered was he was shaking pretty badly.  He said good night and left the officers.  He told me later he realized right then that he didn’t have his phone, as he reached for it to call me – and tell me to relax, everything was fine.  He knew I was home trying to call him and there was little to do, but laugh.

I called Morgan later and told her the story, she was so happy that they had done that, said that it made her feel safe.  I was thinking how strange it had all turned out and even more strange was how Steve had found it so funny, because it wasn’t.  What did they think they were accomplishing by chasing after Morgan?  Later on if was even stranger to me when I asked the detective why his undercover officer was chasing Morgan and he insisted that he knew nothing about it and greatly doubted it was one of theirs…how in the world could he say that?  I was told by dispatch that it was one of theirs following up on a “tip” and then his own patrol officer told Steve the same thing…who was zooming who?

On November 12, Morgan lounged around the house knitting all afternoon.  Then she went babysitting until 9 pm, and came home showered, had dinner, and was in bed by 10 pm.  At 11:11 pm Sammy (our next door neighbors little dog) started to bark that bark of his that was a warning bark.  Sure enough a motion light came on.  I went to watch the feed of Morgan’s camera and Steve was quietly slipping out the back door.  I knew he had stopped right in the back corner of the house because I could hear the motion detector, then I saw he just sitting there behind a tree for the longest time.  I just hoped he was watching something.

When he finally came back in it was long after everything had stopped, and he told me he heard something, a noise like a sudden exhale.  He stood perfectly still waiting for whatever it was to move, or run, but that was it.  All he heard was the one noise.  And then just like that it was all he could think of…didn’t know where it came from, but he knew the stalker was close by and couldn’t figure out how to catch him.

November 6, 2011 – Day 97 of Morgan’s stalking – wasn’t that a long day?

Morgan holding Wylah and typing on her computer

At 5:55 am Morgan texts me and says, “Will you let Wylah out? I’m still traumatized.”

We had already arranged that I would let Wylah out at 6:00 am every morning, which was working fine so far, but it seemed that her clock was just running a little fast. I was already on the way to let her out, and didn’t get the message until later, after I had already let her out. Morgan thanked me from under her covers when I came in, and I told her she was very welcome.

Detective Glassmire was coming over at 11:00 am and before he arrived I wanted to ask Elliott one question, based on developments from the Facebook conversation over the last few days between Keenan and Morgan’s friend.  I waited until a little after eight before asking him if he had any information on Wiley, as I knew very little and he was being accused by Keenan of being the stalker.

Around 11:00 am I received a text from our detective that he was running late on a call between Glenwood and Carbondale and shouldn’t be any later than 12:00 pm. It seemed at the time that our officers were spread so thin at our end of the valley.  I told Steve they were running late.

They had a little “routine” with Rob and Steve, where Steve would pull out our ladder, from our garage, when the detectives came so they could use it to check the cameras, usually he just had it close by, but this time it was already pulled out and set up right at the tree where their camera was.  We were both very excited to see their “face shot” of the walkabout, waiting another hour was going to be excruciating.

Detectives Rob and Megan have pressing matters when they arrive. We talk about interviews that are ongoing and plans for the resolution of this case.  It is all promising and we believe they are trying their best, Rob discussed information about cars first, so we talk about cars.

Rob tells us that one of their officers saw a green car by Thunder River– right where Morgan has reported seeing Keenan multiple times when she is coming home from school. Our Detective Glassmire said he has revised his numbers when he looked up the exact model and color car that I have given him and their are 6 of them between Grand Junction, Vail and Aspen, so it might not be Keenan. I asked what the problem is, because Morgan said she actually saw Keenan driving when she saw the car that was following her.  Steve adds that he has seen Keenan’s car in the Catherine Store parking lot, with another girl driving it, and it has a unique emblem on the back and it is doubtful any of the other 5 would share that same emblem too.  He is quite certain also that it was Keenan’s car.  Rob is uneasy, and for a few moments there is a tension between us that has never been there before.  Morgan repeats that she saw Keenan in the car when she saw the little green car.  Rob says he will check into it.  What is suddenly going on?

I just want to see his cameras, and I suggest we look at the camera to cut the tension, and at long last we go out into the yard.  Normally it is just Rob and Steve, but now we are all there as Rob checks the sheriff’s wildlife camera that is in the direct path of where the prints in the snow were seen. Steve is talking about all the cameras he has bought and returned, because it took so long for that first picture, when Rob curses, which is very uncharacteristic for him.  As we all stand and stare we learn that the batteries are dead, there are no pictures, nothing!  How can that be?

Morgan goes back into the house without a word, I don’t think Rob notices, but I am pretty sure Megan does not miss this. I am angry beyond belief, and pull Steve back toward the house to talk with him, as they take the ladder and go to check the other camera.  The other camera that they have pointed at the camera with the dead batteries – surely that camera must have caught something.  Steve tells me he knows why I am so upset, but he does not.  There is no excuse for this.  A felony stalking case and the one time someone does not just pass by, but intentionally marches right in front of their camera, and the batteries are dead.  I’m losing track at the moment, but I think this is battery problem three, at least. I want to start screaming, but I do not.  This is our daughter’s life we are talking about here – will someone please take responsibility for this stuff!

Then we learn that the batteries in the other camera are also dead, but it has some images, just none that can be used, just someone’s back. It is a bad meeting all the way around and we say goodbye.  Steve tells me we are obviously on our own here.  I say great, now what? Pray for snow, lots of snow? Let Mother Nature stop him, because nobody else seems capable?

Right after the detectives leave, Morgan walks up and tells us to get Keenan’s phone number for her.  She wants to call him and confront him.  She knows that he lives only three houses down the street and we can’t go near him, but she has to do something.  I was about to say no when Steve agrees and tells her he will ask Rob, in fact he will suggest that they are on hand to record the call.  Morgan is alright with this and I am surprised.

Morgan receives a text message from Nate in Australia in response to her message yesterday, “fifteen minutes and I’ll be free. Just let me know.”

At 6:15 pm I send Morgan a text myself, “Dad and I are leaving to go to Aspen to drop off food for Dave (Steve’s friend Dave is laid up, so we want to bring him some food), so we are wondering what your plans are, do you want to go with us or go to a friend’s house and wait till we text you that we are home?” Since Steve’s friend is laid up and not answering his phone we have cooked up some of his favorites to cheer him up and we were leaving.  Morgan answers, “Just let me know when you’re home.” And I tell her, “OK.”

Leesa calls and their heater is on the fritz and she wonders if she can spend the night because she would rather not spend the night in a cold house.  I welcome the chance to see my grandchildren, and offer to pick her up.  We make arrangements and then as soon as I hang up Elliott sends me a text message, “He (Wiley) wasn’t here when this (the stalking) started. Don’t know his last name.” I wrote back to Elliott, “I know Wylie wasn’t living here when the stalking started, but Keenan told one of Morgan’s friends that Wylie moved in when this first started and people should be looking at Wylie. Could you get Keenan’s cell # I think Morgan should call him and say she hopes it’s not him doing this, but if he has any information on how it could be someone else then please share that with me.  What do you think?”

As we are putting the ladder away and Steve is wondering how the sheriff’s department would respond to a crate of batteries at their Christmas party, I tell him I am just looking forward to a quiet night with my favorite, and only grandchildren.

We pick Leesa and the kids up just after dark, and head home.  On the way Leesa thinks she sees someone she knows in a group of 3 or 4 walking up Equestrian way in our subdivision, just before the turn to our house. She wants Steve to stop the truck and he does.

Leesa leans out and starts talking to the small group.  One of them is familiar to me, but it is hard to be sure in the dark.  One answers with her name and Leesa asks her if they have heard anything about the stalker, and a most interesting conversation ensues.  It turns out that three of them know all about it, but after being told to shut up, by one particular girl (Brooke Harris) who seems to think she is in charge, all of a sudden they know nothing.  It also turns out that this girl (Brooke) tells us that she has knowledge of a “Video that exonerates her boyfriend Keenan” and says this is also well known. Nobody in the group tells her to shut up, and she goes on to explain that she has heard all kinds of weird stories about cameras all over the neighborhood, and does not know exactly what to make of it all.

At the end of the conversation we drive away in silence, until Steve says, “Now how did she know that? I didn’t think we had told anyone yet?” But of course she knew – she was the one doing the alibi walk I truly believe.

Today is October 23, 2012 – It is so easy to look back and see something different from what presented itself at that time. That is the last time I heard from Elliott until the morning of December, 2 2011 when Morgan was already no longer with us in this world.  Rob never mentioned any of our encounters with the green car again.  And the neighbors walking up Equestrian Way?  We only shared with Rob and Megan the odd conversation that took place.  And now that I read through the sheriff’s reports, I still have not found any mention of it in the official reports.  Strange, isn’t it all?  You would think this would be an important fact to be written in to the police reports.

And as I go over the final edit we have 12 signatures to go before we reach 1,000 on the petition to Governor Hickenlooper to open Morgan’s investigation.  Thank all of you out there – I just honestly don’t know what I would do without you.

November 3, 2011 – Day 94 of Morgan’s stalking. Back to the rocks…

It was a clear night with only tiny patches of snow remaining. Poor Morgan did not get much sleep. The alarm on our next door neighbor, Rhonda’s side of the house, goes off shortly after midnight and then rocks (that’s what we think we are hearing) on Morgan’s windows hit off and on for the rest of the night until sunrise. Morgan doesn’t want to call the deputies, so she just covers her head with a pillow, and tries to ignore the harassment.

First thing in the morning Morgan has an anonymous text message from 970.xxx.xxxx. She it too tired to make her morning classes, so she sleeps in, and talks to Detective Glassmire about the text message. He wants her to send another letter about that particular incident and then he will talk to her about it when he comes to see her over the weekend. That letter becomes one of the group of letters sent on November 5.

Morgan’s letter to Sheriff:
11.5.2011
Dear Detective Rob Glassmire & Detective Meagan Alstatt,
This Thursday morning @ ____ am I was woken up by a text message from a phone number I do not recognize. I immediately thought it had to be the stalker since it said:
Great pic of you in the morning. You will just never be a morning person like your Dad.
I had changed my Facebook profile picture to a sleepy looking face resting on my bed. Since I used to be friends with Brooke Harris a long time ago she has my cell # from way back then, and Keenan might have gotten it from Brooke Harris. The phone the text came from was # 970-xxx-xxxx I responded, “Who is this?” But never received an answer.
Morgan Jennifer Ingram
case #11-20197

Morgan’s friend, on his own, snaps and can no longer take what is happening to Morgan.  He decided this is getting to be too much, and no matter what the sheriff’s say about staying out of it and letting them handle it, he decides he will try to talk with Keenan by sending him a FB private message warning him to stop stalking Morgan, and to leave the Ingram’s alone. The conversation quickly degrades into two young men verbally sparring about who is going to do what to whom.  Evidently at one point Keenan tells him he is out of the state right now, but when he gets back he will decide if this friend of Morgan’s is worth the trouble or not. The verbal argument was just this one time, and attempts to get copies of exactly what was said had proved unsuccessful, but I now have a copy of that conversation.

Our neighbor Elliott lets me know that he has heard that Keenan is out of the state for the week and has been gone for at least two days, he is not positive, but says he will verify it for me. This would confirm what Morgan’s friend has been told by Keenan.  As for my concern about Elliott popping up whenever something happened, this could have been purely a neighbor trying to be helpful, but it was sounding more like pure gossip, and a certain desire to know from me what had really happened.  I decided that I would share nothing with him about the video recorded of the walkabout, which was easy because he never really asked.  As it was we had not really gone over it at any length so far.  Only enough to know that there was a person who had left the footprints and it looked like a “she,” and it looked like Brooke Harris.  It seemed completely diverse from our other video and camera photo captures, which made perfect sense now, because now it appeared Keenan was out of the state anyway.

Elliott had seen Steve walking the deputy around house and down the street.  Elliott came across the street and tells me he wishes I would have called him before the footprints started to melt, because he has a high resolution camera that he could have used to take very detailed pictures and they could have proved useful later. He wanted me to call him right away if anything like this happened again.  Then he asked about the video.  I told we had not had a chance to really look at it yet as we had just been so under the gun with everything else, which was not completely true, but pretty true.

Perhaps I was being too obvious, or maybe I didn’t care if it was completely obvious.  But from Elliott’s reaction I could tell he was not happy that I was withholding from him.  I weighed that possibility for a moment, and decided it was probably for the best.  I decided right then to not give in to any more requests from Elliott for information, and see how that went.  It did not last long.

See below, the copy of an email I received later that day from the felony stalking detective, Sheriff Glassmire.  The “flyer” he is talking about is a flyer he designed for all local law enforcement (police & sheriffs) to be on the lookout, with a picture of Keenan, a picture of his car and information about the victim “Morgan” and what to do if seen following her, or if he is seen by our house, etc.  It had our address, along with some other information, this is what Detective Glassmire had told me.  Here is the email from him to me on this day:

Subject: RE: case #11-20197

Toni,

Thanks for the update. Deputy Hoover told me about the footage you were able to get. I did get those flyers out to our patrol staff. With the exception of a few that were not there ( I will email it to them) everybody is up to speed on the case. This should help alleviate any confusion if a deputy who has been in the Parachute area for a while has to rotate to the Carbondale area. I prefaced by saying, “keep this flyer in your car, you may not even go to Carbondale for months, but when you do you will have this information.”

Also, the text message, in my opinion, very important. It’s also very suspicious and creepy. I will be following up on that. I used a law enforcement data base to check on the number and it did not show anything. This isn’t too unusual, especially for prepaid cell phones. I did check our sheriff’s office records and a person in 2008 was using that phone number that lives in Rifle. This is definitely a lead that we will be following up on. Does he still have that phone number? Does he have a criminal history? Where does he currently live? Like I said the only profile we have on this guy is from an accident in 2008.

I also think it might be feasible to request for a search warrant for the phone records for that phone number. This is a very lengthy process. Once served to the company they have up to 30 days to provide the information. Unfortunately, companies like Verizon, Sprint, ect, often take far to longer than the 30 days and the enforcement process is very difficult. Regardless, it is a lead that I will be following up on.

If you receive additional texts do not reply. We will take photos of the text message(s) on Sunday. I’ll also do a little bit more research on the person in Rifle. Due to the old file I’m hesitant to think that it is him. I also don’t have too much information on him. Also, as investigators, we have to be careful how we introduce a new name or potential suspect to the victims. I’m going to talk to Megan and see if she thinks there is a forensically sound method to see if you recognize the person. I’m thinking something along the lines of a photo lineup. I’ll let you know on Sunday.

In the meantime, continue to call, text, or email me day or night. Stay strong.

Rob

November 2, 2011 – Day 93 of Morgan’s Stalking – The Mysterious Alibi “March,” What Does It Mean?

Steve is up early, and leaves for work, while it is still dark out.  Snow has fallen during the night, and it is melting off as morning breaks.  The streets are wet, but not icy, and the roofs and lawns have been gently covered in a light layer of white.  For snow country it is a gentle reminder of winter to come, when the road will need plowing, and cars will need to be uncovered, and windshields scrapped of ice before they can be driven, that is the winter right around the corner.  This was more of a light flurry compared to that.

After Morgan left for class, I walked outside in our backyard with the dogs, and was shocked at what I saw over the fence!  The foot trails of a person that was here last night.  I stood up on a bench, and with my eyes, followed the trail crossing behind the house, then turning and coming right to the outside corner of our room, as if someone came just close enough to reach out and touch the corner of the house, and peer into our Master Bedroom window!  Then back across the yard, up and over the berm toward the ranch that was behind our house, and twenty feet down, coming back over and heading for the front, right between our next door neighbor, Ken’s house and ours.  It was only lacking a sign that said “I was here”.  But why were there was no noises last night, no rocks on windows?  Morgan had said it was a quiet night before she left.

I called Steve and told him it looked like a very deliberate trail, straight, marching from this point to this point to the next.  It was unlike anything I had ever seen out there before.  Of course the trail taken by the person was clearly recorded in the snow, and since this was the first snow of any consequence this year it was so surprising to see all of the trails.  I wondered if this was what he did every other night he came.

Steve wanted me to call the sheriff’s department to report the incident, which I did, and then I called him back.  We were talking about how weird this was, as he drove home.  He pulled in the drive, and immediately saw the trail up there, crossing the front of our house and our other next door neighbor, Rhonda’s yard before veering out to the street.  We avoided walking on the yard and went up and down the street.  Then back through the house to see where it began (behind the house and over the berm) and ended.  It was obvious; the snowfall had stopped long before it filled the footprints in.  Was this a break for us, finally?

We went back inside and Steve drew a map of our corner of the neighborhood while he was waiting for the deputy, he carefully filled in the path of the footsteps and went to compare his map to what was still outside.  He called out that the trail passed right inbetween the sheriff’s two wildlife cameras, so he wanted me to call Detective Glassmire, but I did not get him on the phone and then left him a message.  The sheriff’s camera must have caught a perfect picture!

When the sheriff deputy arrived, Steve walked him around the trail, ten feet off to the side, pointing out the starting points, and it was then that they saw another trail, with an obvious section of backtracking.  Trying to walk in the same set of footprints twice, but not quite being able to do it.  Steve told me how he had looked at the deputy and asked him if he was seeing the same thing he saw.  I watched Steve from the back patio a few houses down very slowly walking backward, while looking over his shoulder and down.  The deputy nodded to him and agreed with whatever Steve was showing him.

They came back to our house and the deputy was handing Steve back his “map” and saying it was a good idea that we had documented the path that the footprints follow, and wondered if we saw anyone last night.  Steve tells him no, but that it probably is on video, it will just take a while to locate when it happened.  The deputy wants us to definitely check the video cameras and Steve adds that he will photograph whatever we can.  It was cold out, and with that the deputy left.

Morgan has the camera with her, so Steve just uses his phone, and walks around photographing what is left of the prints in the snow.  He would really like to go over the cameras with me, but does not have the time right now.  I am really busy also, and Steve leaves to go back to work.

We talk by phone, as he is driving away, about how curiously the trail does not go by Morgan’s window, which every time before this was the center of attention.  In fact the trail never goes down her side of the house at all, avoids it completely.  And of course there was no noise last night, if I had not walked outside and seen the trail I would not have even have known that this had happened.  At the rate it was melting away it would all be gone by noon.  This could have been a non event – and gee, if our cameras hadn’t recorded something I guess the sheriff’s would say we didn’t have a stalker…right?

Look for the little white flashes of light in the upper left corner.  That is at the top of the berm – looks like someone is texting on their cell phone…maybe saying, “Now what do I do – it’s snowing out.  Should I still go through with this ‘alibi’ walk around?”  That is what I believe was happening.  Then wait till it reaches the 1:04 spot and you will see the ‘female” get caught on camera coming over the berm.

Today’s email from the felony stalking detective, assigned to our case, Sheriff Detective Rob Glassmire:

Hi Toni,
Attached are a few links that you might find helpful.
Taser: http://www.taser.com/products/self-defense-products/taser-c2 Stalking Resource Center: http://www.ncvc.org/src/Main.aspx

I have only briefly looked at this website but it seems to have a lot of really good information.

I’m also reading a book on my Kindle called “How to Stop a Stalker” by Mike Proctor. It has a lot of good information. I’m not as far through as I would like to be but I try and read a little bit every night. It’s geared towards the victim and not the investigator.

We will stay in touch. If you call, try and call me on my cell phone, ———-. That way if I am at home or away from the desk I have a better chance of picking up. If I am at home and I don’t answer it is because my kids are probably around and acting up. Leave a message and I will call you back shortly after.

Stay with it. You, Steve, and Morgan are very strong. We will do the pretext phone call on Sunday and go from there.

Thank you, Rob

November 1, 2011 – Day 92 of Morgan’s stalking – seems like all is well, but it is not…

Morgan gets a text message from her girlfriend, “Call me! Hey Morgan 🙂 ”  And Morgan texts her back, “Hey cutie pie how are you?”  Steve and Morgan have already been in contact and she is on her way home.  He is hidden in another spot.  Every time he goes to a different place.  He has not told Morgan, but he keeps this a secret from her.  We have heard so much about ways that our communications with Morgan can be intercepted that we are being ultra cautious.

Steve calls me because he knows how worried I am, and tells me that Morgan has just past where he is and in a minute he will start to follow her home.  He tells me it’s snowing and freezing out, there will not be a stalker in this weather.  It helps, but still I am worried that he is going to be close enough and I express this to him.  He tells me to not worry, that she will be out of sight, but he feels like we have to take small chances to catch him.  If she stops for even a few seconds he will catch up, then he can speed way up, and be upon her in absolutely no time at all.

I have a sick, empty feeling in my stomach, I feel we are taking chances with our daughter.  But in order to protect her, this is what it has come to.  Taking calculated risks, leaving her out of our sight for seconds at a time.  Hoping that our extra bit of hanging back is enough to give her stalker enough courage to move in, and then be caught.

There is no harrowing moment tonight, Morgan comes home without incident and wonders what all the fuss is about.  I know that this frightens her, that she might be followed again, and we are reminding her of it.  But I weigh that against how the Garfield Sheriff’s Department fell flat on their face, with the assurance that next time it would be different, when in fact the next time was worse.  I am not saying that they may not have intercepted him if she had dialed 911 while driving, but right when she got home and we called them they could have been proactive and looked for the car, pulled it over and questioned him – there are not too many ways to go from that intersection.   This further eroded any hope Morgan had in them of stopping this nightmare.

I met her in the driveway, with the usual spray and gave her a kiss.  She thanked me and then we saw the lights of Steve’s truck turning onto the street.  Morgan told me that we didn’t have to do this.  I told her, oh yes we do Morgan, and we will never stop, you know that,

We hugged, and when Steve drove up she walked to his truck and hugged him too.  I watched him whisper in her ear, and I wondered what “daddy thing” he had just told her.  She smiled, so I knew it was a good one.  We all walked in the house and Steve and I held hands watching her go to her room.  She told us we were “too much,” but without saying a word Steve and I knew we were not enough, not yet, but we knew we would be, we had to be.

We headed for an inviting bed, and said nothing, just staring at a dark ceiling for the longest while.  Then for some reason we both sat up and decided to check the cameras before going to sleep.  It seemed like I had heard noises earlier, really, really small noises, so I wasn’t concerned as it was snowing out.  We were exhausted, but went into the bathroom where it was all set up and sat together looking at our camera monitor, calling up motion events for the evening, there was one in particular we went right to, at 23.51.30 camera number 4 spots a little light moving around on the other side of the berm.  We watched it a few times and could not tell what it might be.  Tired and needing sleep we decided it could wait until morning.  Steve said it was probably a reflection of something.

We went to bed, then slept, and I felt we had somehow moved in a positive direction tonight…boy was I wrong.
