One little piece to this gigantic puzzle that was overlooked – as usual…

The morning I found Morgan’s body, and our family showed up, our daughter-in-law told me about a show she had watched on TV, and wanted to make sure I told the detective to tell whomever he would be talking to, like the Forensic Pathologist doing her autopsy, so he was aware that she had a stalker and to please, please check for injection marks.  The detective said he knew the doctor doing the autopsy and he “always checks for injection marks in this kind of case”, and again I believed him.  I now see no notes about looking for injections marks, but I do see in an instruction book on how Forensic Pathologists are supposed to look for injection marks.

Morgan had a beautiful french manicure put on her nails the night before she died.  In the instruction book it explains why you have to take any nailpolish off to look under the nails for injection marks.  When I spoke to Dr. Kurtzman at the end of February, on a conference call with Steve, myself and Detective Rob I asked about Morgan’s nails, about the 3 nails on her right hand that were torn or cut at an angle and I was assured her nails still had a perfect french manicure on them when her body left their facility.   What does that mean – what kind of answer is that?  How can there be a proper check for injection marks under the nails with the nail polish still on?  I have so many of these unanwered questions they could fill a book, but I wanted to tell you all about this story because a reader last night sent me an email through the webiste with the following information, and yes it is the link to the story that my daughter-in-law saw before Morgan’s death:

Did you see this on DateLine?   A college student died, coroner originally thought it was natural causes, but then the ME found a tiny pinprick on her arm and it was discovered that a guy who was obsessed with her had injected her with proponol.

I asked my daughter-in-law if this was the story she had watched and she  said, “YES!!!!   I watched this just a few weeks before Morgan passed, and this story really stuck with me!  I have thought about it of a lot, every time  I would have doubts about Morgan….and it would remind me, that crazy things happen!!!”

November 23, 2011 – Day 114 of Morgan’s Stalking – The day before Thanksgiving

Wylah crashed out!

Morgan arrives home from Denver by noon.  I have a short day of work, so Morgan and I go shopping to get all the ingredients for her favorite cake for Thanksgiving, she loves to make Paula Dean’s Pumpkin Gooey cake.  We got home with all the ingredients and Morgan puts on her little pink apron and goes to work on making the cake.

I spoke with Detective Alstatt over the phone today and then after making her cake, Morgan and her friend decided to lie on the living room couch and watch movies until 2:00 am – they feel asleep on the couch, and about 2:10 am (after the lights had been turned off in the living room) all of a sudden Morgan heard continual scraping and tapping on the living room window – her friend was asleep on the couch so he didn’t hear (Morgan had not fallen asleep yet), she sent me a text and I came running out of the bedroom to see what was happening.  I heard a tap on the living room window…I ran to the window to look out to see if I could tell what was happening.  After not seeing anything I whispered to Morgan to just go to sleep on the other end of the couch, as was her friend, and if she heard anything else to let me know.

I went to bed and hoped for the best. Tomorrow was Thanksgiving, and we have reservations (usually I cooked) to go to the Maroon Creek Club in Aspen for Thanksgiving dinner, so I just prayed that we could all get some sleep and have a nice Thanksgiving.

November 16, 2011 – Day 107 of Morgan’s Stalking: Why not give It one more try?

At 4:00 am the motion alarm in the rear corner of the house goes off and two minutes later Morgan is startled by a rock on her window.  The puppy is frightened too, and has an accident in her room.

Steve was getting up already, and almost dressed when Morgan texted that she heard tapping on her window.  I ask Steve if I should call dispatch.  At first he says no.  Lately they have been showing up way after we make a call in and then we are up with them for at least an hour, so I really can’t blame him, we are exhausted.

In the beginning they had some good suggestions and good observations, but after the footprints and the few plans they executed there had not been anything in the way of a new idea to catch him.

Steve suddenly changes his mind to yes.  He grabs the thermal scope and goes out the back door.  “Just once let me see where he is going”, Steve says, “And give the Detectives something to chase, that’s what they need.  Never going to catch him on foot, me or them,”  Steve finishes as he walks out the door.

The alarm in the other corner goes off As Steve heads the opposite direction for the first alarm and crosses over the berm.  But ten minutes later Morgan texts again that the noise is now coming nonstop.  I call Steve and he says naturally I go the opposite way to circle in on him and he goes bananas.  He feels like he is just right there watching him.

He wants me to go into Morgan’s room and stay with her.  Steve says he wants him to run for the window, but he is not going to be there.  He wanted me to throw open the drapes when I was in her room.  We need a visual.

I hang up and go in with Morgan and turn off all the lights.  I tell her Steve is standing back over the berm watching her window. And we waited for just a minute and there was a big tap, loud then another.  I jumped at the first one and texted Steve with the second.  There was a pause, he did not see anything. He asked if I was sure.  Yes, I told him sure!!!  There wasn’t another noise for a while and I texted him that.  He said he wasn’t sure whether to come in or wait.

So we waited.  It was cold and quiet and dark outside now.  I cleaned Wylah’s accident on the floor.  There was no more noises and I told Steve to come back in.  He did and put his stuff away.  Then there was a knock on the front door and I had forgotten all about the Deputy coming.  Steve said he would take him on a walk.  That they had to figure something out and Steve went out to show them exactly what had happened this morning.  He walked them down to where he stood and tried to wait him out.  He told them he thought is was not projectiles before, but now he does again because he was watching the window from less than 75 yards and saw nothing as we herd the noises inside the room.

They patrolled the area together and didn’t see anything.  He didn’t talk about it when he came in, but called me later and said we are just going through the motions with the Deputies. He felt like the detectives could question, and trip him up somehow.  That was our best chance.

That evening Morgan went to the Penny Hot springs with some of her friends.  She didn’t stay long, but they had a great relaxing time talking together.  When Morgan went out she was always surrounded by friends as much as possible.

Today it is October 30, 2012 – Almost Halloween in our new neighborhood.  Steve and I have decided it will be too rough to pass out candy to trick-or-treaters by ourselves, so we have alternate plans for tomorrow.  There is so much deeply researched information that has been shared recently.  I want to thank you all again for all of your effort.  And I am not just saying this to be polite.  If we had been able to harness all of the positive thoughts and concerns I am sure there would have been a different outcome.  Not nearly as bleak as what we have ended up with.

I never thought of a “help me with my stalker” blog while it was going on, but it was just what we needed.  If you remember back to the Memorial weekend trip to Steamboat Springs to meet family we all talked about how to stop this guy.  And we ended up with the wildlife camera – which was one of the closer moments we had to catching him.  Wildlife cams have also proven successful for a few others around the country.  But what I really want to say is that the collective thoughts of concerns need to have a larger voice.  There has to be a way to tap into that better than we do now.  I know some law enforcement probably won’t greet it with open arms.  But it certainly can’t be ignored.  It was the trying to ignore similar crimes in our area that led to Morgan’s stalking.  Quite sure of that.  Also, quite sure that until we are more worried about stopping the crime than covering it up it will happen again.  Someone did stalk Morgan, and had part in her killing.  What’s to stop them next time?

Please read above, Keenan thought maybe “Brooke” (her name was again redacted) did it, but that did not make much sense to him…seriously?  She was the other “suspect” in Morgan’s case – this was a gang stalking, there were more than 2 people involved, and they were all part of a “gang” – the Appletree gang in Newcastle.  Haven’t heard me mention this before, because I thought I should leave that part out.  I have had many people email me about that connection, as well as being told directly to my face by people that know their families.  This was not a game – this was serious stalking and danger!  And why do criminals always know how to use the law to their advantage?  And why do they always get away with directing the blame to others?

November 15, 2011 – Day 106 of Morgan’s Stalking – Why is it always just up to you?

After the deputies leave in the morning I go back to work. Morgan has classes and will be getting up shortly to leave for her college classes. Steve takes off for his project in Aspen. He has many art projects going, but has found he can’t do them all with all of the stress surrounding what is happening. There is a complex project that keeps his mind busy, and he devotes himself to it – he calls it his “ship in a bottle” and while I don’t agree I can empathize with his need to just do one thing right now. Anything more would be far too much.

After Steve leaves I hear of the latest rumor in the neighborhood. After so many years of no rumors, we now seem to have a new one every week – all based on the stalker. The latest greatest is that Christina Harris (Brooke’s mom) is telling everyone that the sheriffs know who the stalker is, and he is one of Morgan’s ex-boyfriends. What?  This is news to me and obviously not true…so why is she telling neighbors this lie?

The rumor about Morgan having gone missing, a while back, upset me the most. Because there were implications that something would or was going to happen to Morgan, subtly veiled in that rumor. The fear that had driven some of the lies in the neighborhood were predicated on people “disappearing” and precautions were taken to protect against this. Steve and I had no first hand knowledge, only what the sheriffs relayed to us and the stories that had been shared with us.  True or not, they were quite frightening.

This rumor however was laughable. The basic problem with rumors and all kinds of lies is there has to be some behind-the-scenes knowledge, or there is the overwhelming risk that you will be all too quickly exposed as a liar. This was one of those.  Morgan had only two ex-boyfriends. One presently lived along the east coast, and had for quite some time. The other lived in Australia, and had for quite some time. Stalkers by nature of their crime have to live in the relative proximity.  A day or two travel away for each incident did not make for the ideal stalking situation, and the Garfield County detectives had long ago ruled those two out as possible culprits.

Morgan is fairly serious in her relationships and they tend to last for years, instead of just days or months. I do not really know if it is the influence of Steve and I, who have been happily married for 35 years, or it is just that it’s the way she has always been. But Morgan takes relationships seriously

I am tired of the nonstop rumors, and the lies that have become the new neighborhood gossip.  Tomorrow I want to find out from the detectives how their “talk” with Keenan has gone, and I want an answer to these persistent rumors. They are, without doubt, always pointing to the innocence of Keenan.  But it is not just that fact, it is the innocence of everyone associated with him.  Morgan deserves an answer to a few simple questions, and I intend to get them.

Morgan leaves to go for a drive with friends and takes her puppy Wylah.  I walk into her room after she leaves and I imagine what it is like for Morgan.  Banging on her windows at any hour, detectors going off to signal trouble.  Knowing someone is out their watching you.  I look at her “panic button” firmly attached to her end table, and it hurts so much that this is her life.  I want it to be over. I want her to have a normal life again. Her motion light goes off as I am standing there.  I call for Steve and I tell him we have to end this. That I am reaching my limit.

Steve agrees and says we have to change this, whatever it takes.  He wants me to call the detectives and have them over tomorrow night.  He will tell tell them that enough is enough.

Today is October 29, 2012 – I am fielding calls from every angle possible. I am also sharing some of our evidence, as I have never done so before. Steve says why hold back, let everyone know just what is going on here.  I field an answer from the Internet that is shocking, because it contains information that no one should know, except someone that was involved in Morgan’s murder.  Who do I call?  The sheriff has gone on TV and said he will never open this investigation again.  Skipping over the small fact that there never was an investigation into her suspicious death in the first place, I truly wonder what a person does in a situation like this.

And then Steve says he thinks he has an answer.  And I am thinking, I was so hoping you would say something like that.  Now I go to see what this answer is – Morgan’s friends, Morgan’s true friends are all coming together to help and even if this has to go all the way to the White House –  it won’t stop….we will get justice for Morgan….we will save other girls!
