New piece of evidence…

NEW EVIDENCE

Trying to solve your own daughter’s murder, without the help of law enforcement, has been like trying to put together a giant puzzle, with all those little puzzle pieces (evidence and facts) floating around above our heads, and every once in a while the right “piece” of that puzzle falls into place to help create the true picture of the crime.

Releasing any information about the evidence we have in Morgan’s case is a big decision – we get advice all the time that we shouldn’t release all the evidence – and we haven’t, and we won’t, but here is just another little piece that should be known. In most cases it is usually the sheriffs or police that are withholding key pieces of evidence, that only the killer would know, but in our case we didn’t have sheriff’s involved in investigating, so we’re the ones doing the investigating – we are the ones that have to be careful NOT to release all the evidence, so that one day, when Morgan’s murder case goes to trial, there will still be a chance for a prosecution.

It was a long time before we’d realize that it was up to us to investigate. We faced that harsh reality, that we have so painfully come to know – if Morgan is to receive justice one day, it is truly up to us, her family, to do the investigating. And with that in mind I would like to share this one piece of evidence, that we previously have not released…note the date and time on the picture when you follow the link below. Steve and I had just mounted a new wildlife camera above our back patio, and the next day it was no longer working (that should have been a clue to us). But on the day we hung it, September 26th, it was working, as you can see. Detective Glassmire had just come over to our house, arriving just before 5:00 pm. It was the first day we would meet him, as he had just taken over our felony stalking case. It had been 56 days since the start of this horrific stalking, and we finally had a Garfield County sheriff assigned to our case. http://morganingram.com/ wordpress/?p=1346 He asked us to walk him through the house, and all around the outside of the house, so we could all discuss the stalking events that had been happening since August 2nd. This picture just happened to be captured and preserved, showing the downed gutter at that time.

As we explained to the detective, this piece of gutter had fallen from our roof, right where the Aspen tree is located – the tree that we now know was used by the stalker as a ladder to climb onto our roof. This picture tells a story – it’s easy to look back now and get a far more complete picture of that story. If you read the timeline on my blog, you will read about the detective being at our house, but you will not read about this piece of gutter hanging down off the house, or the truth behind just this one tiny piece of evidence, that we still have waiting for the day when Morgan receives justice.

On this corner of the house, where the Aspen tree is, and the gutter was torn off, is the exact spot where the path that was worn into the berm behind our house that led right to that Aspen tree! http:// morganingram.com/wordpress/?p=744 and it is also where the motion light kept coming on and off, but by the time we looked out no one was there…of course they weren’t – they were on the roof by then. So you can now imagine, every time someone climbed up that tree, and grabbed hold of the roof, they were grabbing on to that piece of gutter. After so many times that corner metal piece of gutter was grabbed, it obviously snapped off from the stress of being bent and fell to the ground, still attached to the part that was attached to the roof.

Three weeks before we discovered this torn gutter had fallen to the ground, our other wildlife camera, in the front of our house, had taken a picture of one of the stalkers in our driveway, leaning against Steve’s truck, watching the sheriffs drive away. http:// morganingram.com/wordpress/?p=845 Ask any stalking task force officer, and they will tell you a stalker that is not fearful of law enforcement, and “taunts” them, as this stalker was doing, is the most dangerous type of stalker. Law enforcement needed to use a swift and effective stalking protocol to stop this stalker…but they did not.

If Detective Glassmire had asked the suspect, to assume the pose that is seen in the wildlife camera picture, and if he had compared him to that picture, I think there may have been a different ending to this story. I don’t think that would have been too much to ask. If the detective really wanted to have an effective intervention to stop Morgan’s stalking, but that never happened.

We have so many pieces of documented evidence that the sheriffs were aware of, but never pursued…and then it was too late. Too late for Morgan and too late for our family…Morgan lost her life and our lives will never be the same.

So a realization for me that I would like to share with you is this…if you are being stalked, and you feel like you are under siege, like we were, always do whatever it takes to protect yourself, keep a very detailed timeline, call the police every single time there is an incident, get yourself to a safe, unknown location, BUT don’t forget, make sure you ask for a copy of every report, and make sure there is a report. Look over the report and make sure what really happened has been written up in that report. If law enforcement is not doing this for you then you must then go speak with the District Attorney. If your stalking case ever does go to trial all these “little things” may add up to a really big picture that you just didn’t realize at the time. So many unusual things were happening to us during this stalking – we felt like we were under attack, and yet we were trying to keep living, hoping all the time that it would just stop, or that we would be moving out soon, we thought we could live with it until then…this was a very fatal way for us to have thought – please do not make the same mistake that we did. Any day can be your last day – we know that now. If you are being stalked, please learn from our mistakes, if you know anyone being stalked please share this information with them…by raising awareness you could be saving a life. Thank you so much!

Why Didn’t Morgan Yell or Scream?

I have to address this one outrageous idea, that victim blamers keep repeating about Morgan’s murder, “Why didn’t Morgan’s parents hear her being attacked, if indeed she was attacked?”

Try to put yourself in Morgan’s shoes for just one moment – it won’t be easy if you have never been the target of a stalker.  But just try for a moment.  You are exhausted from four months of stalking, you are frightened and on-guard every moment of every day, just waiting for for the next attack to happen, you are hyper-vigilant, and all of a sudden you wake up and your stalker is in your room!  He is probably armed with a gun. And imagine, as we believe, he is not alone. You glance towards your panic button, but it’s not there! (the stalker has removed it), your brain races as you think of how you are going to escape.  You are looking at a weapon, more than one person, and process a verbal threat to be quiet or else… you freeze!

Victims DO report this happening to them, and that is just the ones that survive the attack.  Morgan did not survive, so we are forced to draw possibilities from the facts.  The sheriff’s investigators wrongly believed there was no intruder in her room, because we didn’t hear her scream, yet victims not resisting their attacker is a very well studied and documented FACT.  That very morning, within minutes of arriving, the sheriffs told us her death had NOTHING to do with her stalker.  They did this by ignoring the fact of a victim not resisting, and made matters worse by not treating the crime scene as a crime scene.  The same reason, for so many years, that law enforcement and the courts did not believe or pursue a rape case, if the victim of a rape did not scream or fight back at the time of an attack.  Now of course we know some victims suffered in silence for years before gathering the courage to tell of their attack.  In the case of rape and improper sexual advances, understanding and laws have changed.  Unfortunately in the case of a victim of stalking, who is found murdered in her own home, that type of archaic thinking has not changed at all.

In Morgan’s case, we don’t really know if she was even conscious at all – to not resist her attackers. There is ample evidence she never had a chance to scream out, just as there is ample evidence of intruders in her room that night.  Yet the sheriffs did not tell the pathologist to collect evidence in a rape kit, or test for chemicals that could have subdued her.  The pathologist told us that unless he is directed by the sheriffs to do these things he does not.  So NO simple blood test for any type of chloroform or substance that could have been put over her face, while she was sleeping, to subdue her, was ever made.  NO evidence was collected for a rape kit.  No fingernail scraping were taken to look for DNA, even though 3 nails were broken and there were abrasions on the top and bottom of that same hand.  None of this was done because the sheriffs told the pathologist that it was not necessary…how is that an investigation?

As a little side note to this – did we have a lead that a substance like this was used?  Yes, we did – when the first responders arrived and realized Morgan was already dead, they started to ask questions.  One of their questions was about Carbon Monoxide detectors in our home.  Steve showed them our detectors, and the one plugged into the the wall, above the counter, in the laundry room, had a one-time super high reading that night – Steve was shocked.  The sheriffs were not interested in this one-time super high reading, because it didn’t fit their “no intruder” theory, so they ignored it.  Months later, after other doctors looking at Morgan’s case were convinced it was a homicide, Steve looked up the data on our exact Carbon Monoxide detector and found, to his shock, that it is plausible for chloroform fumes to cause a one-time super high reading without triggering the alarm.  Based on that we surmise that an intruder could have poured chloroform over a cloth on the laundry room counter, before entering Morgan’s room.  We told the pathologist, as well as the sheriff of this discovery, as well as many more facts that absolutely establish the presence of at least one intruder that night, but our FACTS have always fallen on deaf ears – they did not care.  They proved this by there actions.  When too much evidence piled up showing there had to be at least one intruder, they closed her stalking case, claiming there were no more leads to follow up on. That shows they don’t care.

Now some scientific facts, showing why victims may not scream or fight back, by experts in the field…

Freezing in the context of an attack seems counterintuitive. However, tonic immobility may be the best option when the animal perceives little immediate chance of escaping or winning a fight (; ).

Why So Many Rape Victims Don’t Simply ‘Fight Back’

A new study shows it’s common for women to experience involuntary paralysis during sexual assault.

The following is a Washington Post article about, “Why Many Rape Victims Don’t Fight or Yell”

Quote from the article: “Countless victims of sexual assault describe just such responses. Too often police officers, college administrators, even friends and family think to themselves – and say out loud – “Why didn’t you run out of the room?” “Why didn’t you scream?”

Alice’s Tea Cup in New York…

Alice’s Tea Cup in New York was another of Morgan’s favorite places to be…and Lemongrass Jasmine Tea was her favorite tea she ordered while there.  Just another memory of Morgan.  She loved tea shops, book stores, and museums.  That was also who Morgan was.

I miss her so much – my heart hurts every single day without her.  Every time I find a memory like this, I smile thinking about how much she loved such simple things as good tea, then I cry because it will never be again.  Someone evil stole her away from her life on this planet – these are now just precious memories of her.  I believe Morgan’s soul is still on her journey, and I will see her again someday when my time on this planet is done…but till that day I will miss her with all my heart.
