Victims of stalking become hyper-vigilant…they never know when or where their stalker will strike. They know evil never rests – exhaustion from lack of sleep becomes the norm. Wikipedia says, “Hypervigilance is an enhanced state of sensory sensitivity accompanied by an exaggerated intensity of behaviors whose purpose is to detect threats. Hyper-vigilance is also accompanied by a state of increased anxiety which can cause exhaustion.”
Morgan, Steve and I were all victims of stalking in Colorado – it was a gang stalking – it involved more than one person. Morgan was killed during the active investigation into that felony stalking case. Colorado understands how dangerous and pervasive stalking is – here is the Colorado Legislative declaration:
C.R.S. 18-3-601. [Formerly 18-9-111 (4) (a)] Legislative declaration. (2010)
(1) The general assembly hereby finds and declares that:
(a) Stalking is a serious problem in this state and nationwide;
(b) Although stalking often involves persons who have had an intimate relationship with one another, it can also involve persons who have little or no past relationship;
(c) A stalker will often maintain strong, unshakable, and irrational emotional feelings for his or her victim, and may likewise believe that the victim either returns these feelings of affection or will do so if the stalker is persistent enough. Further, the stalker often maintains this belief, despite a trivial or nonexistent basis for it and despite rejection, lack of reciprocation, efforts to restrict or avoid the stalker, and other facts that conflict with this belief.
(d) A stalker may also develop jealousy and animosity for persons who are in relationships with the victim, including family members, employers and co-workers, and friends, perceiving them as obstacles or as threats to the stalker’s own “relationship” with the victim;
(e) Because stalking involves highly inappropriate intensity, persistence, and possessiveness, it entails great unpredictability and creates great stress and fear for the victim;
(f) Stalking involves severe intrusions on the victim’s personal privacy and autonomy, with an immediate and long-lasting impact on quality of life as well as risks to security and safety of the victim and persons close to the victim, even in the absence of express threats of physical harm.
(2) The general assembly hereby recognizes the seriousness posed by stalking and adopts the provisions of this part 6 with the goal of encouraging and authorizing effective intervention before stalking can escalate into behavior that has even more serious consequences.
Notice, Colorado encourages and authorizes effective intervention before stalking can escalate, as it did in our case. From the very beginning of the stalking, until 4 months later when Morgan was murdered, the stalker(s) were continually ratcheting it up. They “got off” watching the sheriffs show up with their flashlights to look on the ground – it caused the stalker(s) to set off more alarms, more motion lights, more impacts against the windows. Morgan was murdered just 2 nights after Det. Glassmire told us he believed the stalking was going to “escalate” and he would be assigning more directed patrols of our home. Our daughter ended up dead 2 nights later, and Garfield County Sheriff Lou Vallario has the nerve to go on camera, almost 9 months after her death, and say his officers were out at our house over 50 times, and never saw a stalker? Seriously – does he think a “stalker(s)” will just sit on the front lawn and wait until the sheriffs get there? Wow, does that happen often? I think not. This is why so many victims of stalking no longer trust law enforcement. This needs to change. There needs to be more education, and the implementation of an more effective protocol.
And why, out of 4 months of calling law enforcement out to our home, almost twice as many times as the sheriff claims, keeping our own timeline like suggested, giving law enforcement photos, videos, statements, witnesses, etc. the sheriffs only produced ~ 6 investigating officer’s reports (which is what they are supposed to do EVERY time) – where are all the other reports of these stalking incidents? And the felony stalking detective Rob Glassmire (the now current coroner of Garfield County) met with Morgan almost every week, he was called and emailed, and texted every time something happened, he was given details of events and where are all his reports? When you take out the copies of what Morgan and I gave him and the “suspects” work hours there isn’t much left in his reports. Where are the details about what happened during all those horrific incidents? Were those reports ever written? Were those reports deleted intentionally out of the police reports many months after Morgan was murdered?
Here is the sheriff’s list of incident reports – or should I say the only ones they list. Of the almost non-stop stalking incidents for 4 months straight, this is just a small fraction of the incidents that were called in, and responded to – how can that be? We have all the dates and times dispatch was called. We have the cards of the responding deputies. We have video of the sheriffs looking around our home with flashlights and walking up and down our driveway. if you read what they write, it’s crazy – during an active felony stalking case they list the events as Trespassing, Suspicious Events, Directed Patrols, Harassments and Follow Ups. This is how the Garfield County Sheriff deals with felony stalking. This has to change, or many more innocent people will die because of their stalkers, due to the lack of an untrained sheriff, and the absence of an effective stalking protocol.
Evil never rests, and to ignore evil and pretend it didn’t happen just allows it to keep damaging innocent families…this needs to stop now!
I recently saw this show on Dr. Phil and saw it also saw it on Crime watch daily. The stories are not the same. On Dr. Phil there is no mention that her clothes were changed and that she had made some sort of sign language showing a K for Keenan. Why are the stories not told in the same way?
Very simple Susan…the Dr. Phil show was filmed just before the first anniversary of Morgan’s murder but we had not received the crime scene photos, along with other documents at that time. We received them almost 2 years after her murder, so the criminologists and experts had nothing to review till then, and that was after the Dr. Phil show. We have continued to amass information and evidence through our own due diligence and investigation for almost 6 years now…and more information and evidence has not been released publicly on purpose. We obviously hold back many things so that when an official investigation, by another law enforcement agency, happens we have a shot at getting justice for Morgan with convictions. I hope this answers your question.
How come in the picture of Morgan covered and lying on the floor with her arms in what appears to be neurological posturing affected by rigor mortis, her clenched fists (also a sign of posturing, not rigor mortis) show no broken nails on either hand? Enlarge it and look yourself.
First, the crime scene was completely botched, as we were told by the District Attorney, and the fact that you see a towel over her body in the picture you are referring to is a testament to that. They should never have covered her up, and they should never have tried to close her eyes. But they should have tested the bodily fluids that appeared on her chest under the UV light…that’s what the light is for – why test for illuminated areas and then dismiss them away without testing? And the Deputy Coroner never even took a body temp…seriously!!! Was this all gross negligence or something more?
Also, what you can not see from that photo is that her knees were also bent (pulled up toward her chest) when she was found on her right side – the first responders, as well as the sheriffs, were told that she looked as though she was curled up, in what looked like the fetal position. BUT after Steve rolled her onto her back on the bed, and was doing CPR, the 911 operator told us to get her onto a HARD SURFACE, so Steve took her shoulders, and I took her ankles, and we got her onto the floor, so he could continue CPR until the First Responders arrived…when we swung her onto the floor her legs were pulled straight so in the picture you can no longer see her knees were bent as well. Make no mistake it was horrifying, as parents, to see her like this while trying to revive her.
We were not given the crime scene photos until approx. 2 years after her murder. The pictures of her clenched hands have been reviewed by experts (and not all the pictures were on the CWD show buy any means), and are believed to be absolutely showing a “K” and a “N”. Morgan did know, and did use sign language, and when blown up, the photos do show damage to the nails on that hand…also, we have witnesses that saw her nails at the “viewing” at the mortuary, just days after her murder, and brought it to our attention – after that I called & spoke with the pathologist Kurtzman who said, “She had a PERFECT french manicure when she left his facility,” and if there was damage to her nails it was obviously caused by the mortuary, and he said he did not cut her nails, and did not check under her nails for DNA. The fact is she had the french manicure put on Wednesday night, she was murdered Thursday night, and her nails were fine when she came home Thursday night before her murder. So they should not have looked like that in the crime scene photos, if they were still perfect at the autopsy – so we believe the pathologist lied.
I know you have been sending comments to me for years, bouncing back in forth between different alias, and then going back and forth between different ip addresses…not sure who you really are and not sure what your motive is, but you have gotten every single fact wrong, whether on purpose or out of naivety… What I would really like to ask you is why you vehemently have defended Keenan VanGinkel, who was Morgan’s stalker? He was on the police reports as the “suspect” Morgan’s case, her case number was on Keenan’s global jacket, before we even knew he was the stalker (the sheriff’s knew, but didn’t tell us back then) and then Morgan id’d Keenan following her in her car multiple times, in full view, even as she left her college classes in the middle of the day. His work schedule shows without a doubt he was not at work when the incidents of stalking, as well as her murder occurred, and yet you act like the FACTS are not really FACTS and you can just say whatever you want to say, things that are contrary to the FACTS, and you say I am a crazy and grieving mom that is accusing an innocent man…seriously?
Get your facts straight, and stop defending a criminal. He is not innocent, Morgan was a victim of stalking, not a survivor like Steve and I, because her life was taken from her. Stop being an Internet Bully and Victim Blaming, but instead try helping innocent victims that no longer have a voice, because a sick obsessed stalker silenced them – there are many of them out there – their cases need to be solved so other future innocent victims can be saved. Criminals do reoffend and when law enforcement and/or our justice system does not enforce the law victims suffer. Stand up for truth and justice and stop defending criminals! Here are all 4 parts https://crimewatchdaily.com/2017/10/24/suicide-or-murder-what-happened-to-morgan-ingram/
Well just watched a rerun of Dr. Phil, and the biggest thing that stood out to me is what the Brook said to Dr. Phil after he questioned her about being accused of Morgan’s murder. Out of all the things Brook could have said or answered the very first words out of her mouth was…..where’s the proof? I’m no expert but why ask that why not say I didn’t do this or I don’t know why I’m being accused of this or this women is crazy, instead she ask….where’s the proof, my personal opinion…..she knows more than anybody wants to admit whether she did something or not seems she knows something,….where the proof? Like knew you guys were on the wrong track, and she was posing a question to compare what she knew with what Toni knew…..maybe she didn’t do anything but I think she could clear some things up…….where’s the proof? A totally innocent person wouldn’t need to ask that.
I am so very sorry about Morgan. I just watched your story on ID channel. Nothing is stronger than a Mom’s gut instinct. Never give up, never, never give up. You are in my prayers. Ruth Sampson Spencer Phelan.
From the bottom of my heart please accept my sincere thanks for your kind words Ruth!
Not the greatest idea to post your address.
We have not lived at that address since the beginning of 2012 and I did this post in 2019 so I am not worried about it.
