Just a Jumble? Or does it all come together?
You just never know. Everyone tells you, and you hear it in so many ways your entire life – you just never really know. Is it all just a jumble, or can it really be unraveled to make perfect sense? Time will tell, because the truth never changes.
I think about the things that have happened, good and bad, and sometimes I see them in a new light. For instance there was a night that Fall of 2011 when the Deputies, led by Patrol Officer Grzegorz, decided enough was enough, and they headed to Keenan’s house for a little chat with the suspect in Morgan’s staking. Nothing wrong with a Sheriff’s Deputy coming by to ask a question or two – if you haven’t done anything wrong, is there?
In fact, as I ponder the choices, if your concern is for the safety of the neighborhood you lived in, you neighbors, and upholding the law then you would be very helpful, accommodating, welcome him in, and tell him whatever he needs to know I would think. Aid in the investigation, right?
Deputy Grzegorz is very observant, he also moves very quickly, and noticed things on his way to the door. His reports show just how serious he is. After a short wait Brooke Harris answered the door. Her father James was gone, and she was home with just the person Deputy Grzegorz wanted to speak with, Keenan Vanginkel. But Brooke told him Keenan was asleep! Could not be woken up?
Then comes the part that makes me go, huh? Deputy Grzegorz reports hearing a commotion behind Brooke in the house, and he asks her about it. Brooke does not let him in or go herself to see what the commotion is. They had no pets, and only Brooke and Keenan were at home so what was the commotion in the house? And not inviting the Deputy in would mean? And the alcoholic beverage found when only two minors are present would mean? Well I’m just thinking now, what was the problem with letting the Deputy in the house? I have heard lots of explanations, but none of them make any sense to me.
And there was the time when Brooke was out with her friends, and we asked them, her friends, not Brooke, if they had heard about the stalking, and what they thought about it. Brooke immediately claimed to not know anything, but her friends corrected her and reminded her about what she was just saying about the stalking. Then she cut them off and ordered, not asked, ordered them to just shut up. What was the problem there? And why did she want them to just shut up. What was she afraid of?
After all there was an ongoing investigation into the felony stalking case, Detectives were assigned, they had a suspect, she actually was his girlfriend. In the interest of solving the crime Brooke could have asked her friends to help out the Sheriffs department in their felony stalking investigation, and tell them everything they know. But that didn’t happen. No one said anything about the stalking, except to say that they knew there was one.
So today I wonder, if you knew there was a stalking, and you were not Morgan, or you were not Steve or I, how did you know? She had claimed that her boyfriend was exonerated from the stalking.
Finally there was a hearing, Steve and I were there. The judge was there with his aide. Jonathan Shamis, a lawyer from Alpine Legal Services was representing Brooke, her mother Christina and father James, they said they were frightened of us, but we stood five feet apart. Jonathan Shamis wanted the judge to lift the temporary restraining order they had asked for so they could appear on a television show with us. Quite odd because they didn’t seem frightened, actually I would call their demeanor as more like combative, if I were asked to pick a term.
The shocking part was when they said they needed their attorney Jonathan Shamis to go with them, to be right there off camera to protect them from criminal implications. I turned to our counselor and asked him if Steve and I needed him to come, and protect us too, but he explained we had no criminal exposure so there was no need for him to come.
Then we get to Los Angeles and find out that Keenan’s lawyer won’t even let him come, because it’s far too risky. Obviously his lawyer didn’t tell us. She told the producers of the show, they knew. So even if his lawyer is ten feet away to jump in it’s still too dangerous. But Steve and I didn’t even need a lawyer at all! What does that tell you?
If I’m trying to unravel the jumble, I am at the point where you ask – is this what happens when the Sheriff’s department has so thoroughly botched the crime scene, and then the suspects need lawyers to talk because of criminal implications, and actually the #1 suspect can’t even talk at all, and an officer of the court can insult the victims, on national television? But did the #1 suspect forget that he had an ongoing six month private facebook conversation? Must have, doubt his lawyer would have approved of that.
There is no sense in stalking. All stalkers in my eyes are the cowards of the world. Cowards, because they are liars, abusers and wickedly evil people.
When the sheriff went to the house to talk to K and Brooke answered, you are right. If there was nothing to hide, she would have gladly answered the questions. But all the players in any stalking event, that get defensive, have something to hide.
You were let down by the show. They should have told you K was not coming. Many judges are corrupt. I know from being married to a man, whose mother was a judge. They get bought out.
Yes a stalking situation is a jumble of lies, that are so tangled. All stalking victims hope that the web will untangle and justice prevail. Our stalker(s) don’t think they have done anything wrong. But they have. They are criminals and deserve time behind bars, for their crimes, or they deserve what they do to others. That is my wish.
Sustained outrage will continue in my life, until my stalker(s) are held accountable. There is no sense in what happened to Morgan. It is similar to my situation. Where men and women who like to play relationship games, bring others into their tangled webs of
double black diamond fatal attraction. Then try and twist the story to make, you look like the stalker or crazy person.
Time will tell and I guarantee you, there are many people that have been in my life, that will never be in my life, ever again, no matter what. Once a liar, always a liar!
Hi Lynn, I think stalkers know what they do is wrong that is why they are so secretive about it. They don’t share notes in a public blog or Facebook because they know that there are people who would arrest them or expose them. My stalkers only communicate by hand signals and code words and other such things because they know that if they wrote about what they do in complete sentences and paragraphs they would have to take on millions of Americans who would be outraged. They prefer to take on ONE American at a time because it guarantees their victory.
Toni and Steve, do you ever start to get the feeling that “women” in general just aren’t a priority to law enforcement? We have to get more women involved in law enforcement and in politics. This is really important to affect change. Here’s more on my story if anyone is interested, rambling from a stalking victim hoping one day someone with power and money and influence will help the women and children of Pinellas County, Florida because there is no way that these folks organized to harm only one mother and her little girl. It’s what they do!
This is great news for rape victims! They can start a database of accused rapists nationwide and share this information to catch serial rapists. Ms. Magazine reported that most men are not rapists, but the few are serial rapists. That is why it is so important to catch them early on using all the technology and sharing we can. I appreciate the sacrifices that so many men and women in the military have made for me and my freedom in this country, but I do not appreciate the fact that military leadership has set up a culture that teaches our young men in the military that raping women is acceptable and that women are the enemy and to protect the man at all costs. This is terrible for our country. Many of these men then go out into the civilian world with these cultural beliefs that it’s o.k. to harm women as long as you cover it up. Also, they get 10 point leads for all civil service jobs, which means they dominate those professions, including law enforcement at the local, state, and federal level. They should make only 50% of the civil service jobs available to those with 10 point leads. Nobody can compete against that and it becomes a military culture.

I think it is odd that they wouldn’t talk to the cops. All my life I would not have hesitated to let a cop in my home to talk to me about anything until the day that I met Officer Steve Calderone and Officer Amanda Gay who scared the living daylights out of me and taught me to fear them and to fear cops. Now, I wouldn’t trust a cop as far as I could throw ’em. I know that all cops are not corrupt, but they don’t come with signs on their foreheads unfortunately. In all these years, I haven’t found even one cop willing to stand up for me and my daughter or any of the mothers and children being stalked out of their homes in Pinellas County, Florida. So…Boy, what a dream that would be! At least you have cops on your side – that’s a good thing! We never have. The cops of Pinellas county, Florida could care less what organized crime is doing to the lives of the children in that community. It’s all about the MONEY. That is all they care about and their spray on tans and plastic surgery.
When I was in the 9th grade, a student was murdered. Her brother was in my grade, so it really has stayed in my mind all these years. I just looked up her story on the Net and the parents hired a private investigator because the police weren’t getting anywhere. He quickly found links to the murderer who happened to be my English teacher! My heart sunk. If Americans are expected to conduct our own criminal investigations then why don’t they give us investigation courses in high school instead of English three literature we’ll never use or algebra II and trig we’ll never use. There is a much greater probability that we will need investigative skills at some point in our lives. Her name was Debbie Gamma. Ray Payne is the man who went to prison for her murder and I’ll bet he is out free today. I wonder. It just makes you wonder. Why was this investigator able to find information that the cops couldn’t find? Are they not being trained properly? Do they not care? Did they know the guy? What? Should we be fighting for better training and screening for cops, not just justice?
That is such a sad story, and all too true, both around the country, and in other countries as well. Yes, we should be fighting for better training, and screening of law enforcement, BUT we also need to fight, and insist that our law enforcement agencies uphold their own State laws that have been put on the books to ensure the safety of stalking victims…that I believe comes with the training, but I believe it needs to be insisted upon so they do make sure all officers or maybe even a special unit within their departments know that they need to ABSOLUTELY follow the law!

Not sure if anyone checks this but Ray Payne is incarcerated for life in the case of that murder.
Catherine did note in her comment that he was convicted for that murder – she also mentioned that she didn’t know if he was still incarcerated…good to know he got life and is not out of prison. Thanks.
