Happy Summer Solstice

The flower photo above is one that Morgan took in her last year of life…I will always honor Morgan by cherishing life as she did. Morgan loved life. Morgan saw beauty in the world at every turn.

Today, as we celebrate the first day of summer, I am reminded that on this longest day of the year, I have so much to be grateful for. I am grateful that Morgan, in her short 20 years, opened my eyes to so many things. She was wise beyond her years and I feel like she taught me more than I ever taught her. I miss her every moment of every day, but still feel her love and wisdom with me in every breath I take…for that I am grateful.

  1. Good Afternoon,

I have followed your daughter’s case for about 2 years now. Intermittently checking for updates. Has there been any progress on getting law enforcement to take another look?

    • Hello Shannon. This coming December it will have been 9 years since our daughter Morgan’s murder. It is so hard for us to comprehend that it has been this long and we are still fighting for justice.

A little known fact – in Colorado, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is not allowed to investigate unless invited in by the local authorities and even then, according to Colorado law, they cannot disagree with that local jurisdiction’s conclusions, they are only allowed to support that conclusion, unless told that they can offer another conclusion. No checks and balances and trust me, the CBI tried multiple times, over the years to be allowed to investigate our daughter’s case, but were turned down every time. They told us until the law changes, their hands are tied. This has been the experience for many other families/survivors. like us, in getting another agency with territorial jurisdiction to intervene and review the scope and quality of the investigation conducted by the handling agency.

We have gone all the way to the Governor’s office, who told us we would need to go to the Attorney General’s office, who in turn told us that only the Governor could direct them to investigate…so around and around we have gone for over 8 years now, but in all that time we have done many other things and have more options to pursue, which we will certainly do. In the last year, for many medical reasons, as well as the exciting little additions to our family we have not been able to continue on Morgan’s case, but now in the next 2 months our efforts will resume with a vengeance. I hope and pray that by this time next year, a decade after her murder 🙁 we will have some good news as an answer to your question. Thank you so much for checking in. #JusticeforMorgan
