October 2, 2011 – Day 62 of Morgan’s Stalking

This morning at 6:15 Morgan is awoken by loud stones against her window, the loudest it has ever been (look at the suspects hours below – he was on his break, only minutes from our house at this time!) She presses the panic button immediately and Steve is at her room seconds later, and then he is out the front door.  I rush to her room and Morgan is beside herself.  She thinks that it is a wonder he did not break the window and we both look at all of her windows very carefully for cracks.  We don’t see any, and Steve comes back in to report that he did not see anything, and Keenan’s car is not at Brooke’s dad’s house.  He is going for a drive to record the rest of the neighborhood, and wants both of us to stay inside while he is gone.

We are all far too keyed up for sleep and wind up in the kitchen for a family talk.  I have no notes about what we did talk about that morning, but I can safely guess that it revolved around stalkers and stalking.

After breakfast we go outside and find two questionable footprints on Morgan’s side of the house.  I see them, but Steve does not.  Again, I would like to mention that we had 6 cameras up around our house, but they could not cover every area of the house – it was impossible…so there were holes in the coverage.  We spent some time looking at the live video and Steve positioning on that side of the house, and realized the spot where the prints were is in a “hole” between the two cameras.  Steve aims both cameras at Morgan’s windows and we thoroughly water the side and rake it smooth.  We had been lax in this step since the video cameras went in and we agree to be more attentive to every detail.  Now that we have a detective, if we get a really good print he will cast it.  I am very angry with myself for not keeping up with this “chore”.

Later that morning, right around 10:35 am, a neighbor calls and tells us that Keenan drove up at 10:30 am and, after watching him get out of his car and go in the house, he did not have the “range bag” this time.

Morgan goes out with her puppy and texts me later at 9:51 pm “On my way”.  I have been trying to find an app for my phone that Morgan wanted me to get and I text her back, “Is the app called happy trees?”  She answers, “Hills.” And I tell her, “Ok thanks and I’ll watch for you.”  She tells me “K” and is pulling in the driveway a short while later.

We had all been up since early morning and were tired and went to bed.  At 10:31 pm one of the back motion lights went off, this had been such a pattern, which was followed by something on Morgan’s windows that I went right out into the yard with a flashlight, leaving the bedroom door open.  As soon as I was out in the yard I heard the motion alarm for the driveway going off in the room.  I thought whoever was in the back had gone straight to the front and across our driveway.  Most every time we had seen someone in the driveway they were always going from my office side of the house to the garage side of the house and I went back through the house to see what was out front.  There was nothing and I went back in to discuss with Steve some counter measure for this pattern, it had happened too many times.

Today is September 30, 2012 – A thought about cameras.  If ours had been mounted away from our house looking at our house from some distance they would have proven far more useful.  From a practical standpoint it sounds difficult, but mounting cameras on neighboring houses and the back of the back yard, all aimed at the house seems like a good start.  Our cameras were mounted under the eves of the house which put them about 3’ from the outside wall and as our house had really high ceilings they were about 14’ from the ground.  And reviewing all the cameras we had, in case I have not talked about this, pretty much impossible to see it all.  The video was always on, so it was six cameras times 24 hrs each, every day.  Unless we wanted to focus on a specific place in a certain time range it was difficult.  There was a motion detecting feature that we have found was less than perfect in catching our stalker, but it was very helpful in ruling out wind or animals as a cause for an alarm on one of the motion detectors.  We now know the cameras were not catching any images because the stalker was on our ROOF!  He was coming from above and the cameras were not pointed up there.

  1. First of all, I am so sorry for your loss. Your daughter, Morgan, appeared to be a beautiful, intelligent and down to earth girl.

I have just finished reading your blogs from start to finish. Whatever the viewpoint/findings of the police and coroner, the fact is a young woman has died, and should be investigated. If they doubt it was homicide, surely they could look into this matter from a medical stand point? Young, healthy women seldom die in their “sleep”. Someone with the authority and resources should be made to find you and your family answers.

    • Agreed – that’s why for the first 7 months we did not accept “Natural” as her manner of death and neither did any of the many doctors that sent their opinions and findings to the Pathologist so then they changed it to suicide, but found no pills or residue of pills in her stomach, and at least 6 date rape drugs showing up in her tox screen, and of course I forgot to mention her jewelry disappearing that same night and of course let’s not forget she had a stalker that was getting more and more bold over a 4 month period. Also, our detective announced that he would be getting a copy of the time cards for this suspect the 5 days later…a dead victim, no stalking case, guess the stalker figured that one out pretty fast…less than a week to be exact, and it worked for him.

      • Thanks for your response, I appreciate how hard all this must be for you. I do wish you the best in finding the truth about what happened to your daughter. BTW, I came across your blog on Reddit, so it’s good to see that your story is getting out there.

        • Thanks – I didn’t know it was on Reddit…good to know I have heard good things about Reddit.

  2. That’s a really good point you make about trying to mount cameras on a neighbors house or tree if they’re amenable. I can see how that would be very helpful and hope other victims of stalking take note of it. I for one would never have thought of that.

  3. Yes, I hope others that are being stalked try it – if you can catch a really good picture of the stalker most LE agencies (obviously not ours) will usually put an end to it with an arrest and if that arrest and conviction has some actual teeth in it then it won’t be a revolving door for the stalker.

  4. I’ve come to check this blog more than I check my social networks! I told my entire ballet company about Morgan and we went over safety details if we ever found ourselves in a situation like her. One younger girl even said she had a guy who was harassing her and she took appropriate measures after hearing Morgan’s story (all it took was calling his parents- they had no idea their son was annoying this girl like he was) to get him to leave her alone.

I also showed my company director a picture of Morgan’s feet in her pointe shoes (the picture from her own personal blog) and he said she had amazing feet and was obviously very gifted.

I pray for you, Toni, and you, Steve, daily. The entire Ingram family is in my thoughts and I send you all love and best wishes from Texas. Never give up.. your fight for Justice will not be in vain. You have already made a difference, and no one will ever forget Morgan Jennifer, the girl who shares so many things with me. I miss her and I never even got the chance to know her- that’s the kind of amazing person she was. I just know she is smiling down on all of us from Heaven. Thank you for continuing to update the blog, thank you for fighting for Morgan, and thank you for your courage amidst the naysayers.

    Love,

    MJ

    • Morgan told the female detective, just about 2 weeks before she was killed, that yes she was stressed, but she was taking care of it with her 2 pointe classes per day – the detective told me it’s just like what she does as a runner – she runs and burns off the stress, Morgan said she dances, sweats, and burn off the stress and then afterwards her dance group would crash out on the floor and talk, so she was able to tell her friends at class about her stalker and they all knew. Does ballet seem like a release to you too?

I am so glad the blog is helping your ballet company – that really made me feel good…thanks.

  5. Another thought about cameras for people dealing with this now and in the future is to put cameras in the actual room/house…

I’m so sorry for your loss and applaud your strength and courage.

  6. you can dust for fingerprints yourself too. Amazon sells the powder, and it is really easy to do. Why Google is your friend. Just a suggestion to those that might not be getting the help from Law Enforcement.

    • I wish we had known that – everyone else reading this please take note…this is a good idea.

  7. It’s getting harder and harder, but I promise you Annie I will keep telling myself that everyday. I have to stay strong because I fear this is going to be a long battle.

  8. yes. my idea was also to mount cameras on the four corners pointing at my house and make them high enough to catch the roof, as well. My house is/was just a small home one story. At one point they could just get up on the front porch roof (somewhat lower) and then to the roof. Considering how many people they imported from different states (allegedly to visit the homeless shelters nearby but these people were gang members and the homeless shelters were really not that as much as something more sinister I feel) A murder of a tampa cop happened just outside one of the alleged homeless shelters, just a block and a half from my home: Mike Roberts. That morning one of the dirtiest cop’s daughter texted my son. They were not close. She had gone to work with him at some point and had befriended my son. That cop later held shootouts in our neighborhood and when I called to get help, HE is the one who came to investigate “SHOTS FIRED” the dispatcher got very upset and said SOMEONE WILL BE RIGHT THERE but then at least 8 minutes later it was just that one dirty cop who later stalked me in another part of Tampa more than once: Paul Mumford. It goes on and on for years and years.
