Last year Monday, August 8th – the 7th day of Morgan’s Stalking

Morgan went off the see some friends.  She was having fun taking her puppy to the park in Carbondale.  At 3:19 pm Steve sent Morgan a text, “Did you mail the letter?”  Later that day I sent her a text at 6:14 pm saying, M – it’s after 6 where are you?  Did you know your voice mail is not connecting?”  At 7:03 pm Morgan sends a text back saying, “What?!  I hate my phone. Have you called me too?  Is the mail place still open?”  At 7:34 pm I sent her a text back saying, “ No the mail place (P.O.) closed at 4:30 pm, it is now after 7:00 pm.  I called and called – no answer, no message machine.  You said you’d be home at 6:00 to bury the ferret.”  (Her last ferret had died over the winter when the ground was still frozen, and we had made a plan to go bury it in the later afternoon. Morgan texted back, “Call?”  I texted her back, “I meant call me”  She texted back, “Crap.  Should we do it tomorrow?”  I texted, “When will you be home?”

I am starting to get really worried about the strange tapping on her windows and wondering how does someone know within 15 minutes when she comes home?

Morgan sends me a text, “When do you need me?”  I text back, “Please be home by 10 – love you.”  Morgan texted back, “Definitely, love you more.”   I replied, “No way Jose.”  Morgan comes home from a friend’s house and decides to shower in Toni’s office bathroom @ around 10:10 pm (thinking it was safer since it was on the other side of house from her bedroom) within 10 minutes of her arriving home, and after undressing, she notices the obscured bathroom window is open about an inch, she gets a creepy feeling (your intuition always knows!), closes cranks closed the window – she hears a loud bang, bang on the window, it sounds like it’s about to break from a fist hitting it, she grabs a towel, wraps it around her and runs into our bedroom.  She is frightened out of her wits and tells us what happened.  Her dad runs outside to see if he can catch the guy, but finds nothing.  Morgan is so frightened she sleeps in my walk-in closet that night with her puppy.

*Please note at this point we should have called the Sheriff’s Office or 911, but decided the morning would be a better time to call in the light of day.  By this time Morgan is so stressed out that she breaks out in a rash on her face and chest.  I refuse to leave the house unless Morgan is not home…I never leave Morgan alone anymore (except one morning for 20 minutes, and as you will see later on in this story, that was a huge mistake).  Morgan always sends me a text or calls to tell me when she will be driving up the driveway…I always meet her in the driveway carrying pepper spray when she drives up.  This always happens up until, and including, the night Morgan died.

  1. Hello, I was just wondering why the ferret died in the winter and you didn’t bury it until August? Thanks.

  2. I’m wondering…. Think it’s possible Morgan could have known and even spoken too her stalker, without even knowing it? CREEPY!!!

    • After a month she knew who it was as well as the sheriffs…he then started to follow her and even showed up in his car when she left school in the afternoon to stare at her – she was so frightened I doubt she spoke with him but you never know she was also angry and wanted her life back so I could see her yelling at him…maybe someday I will find out. She was totally creeped out by him…those were her words.

  3. What was the area outside her window like? Woods? Rural or Suburban? Lots of traffic or little? How close was the nearest neighbor’s house. In other words, how much concealment did the stalker have? Sorry for all the questions. I’m just wondering how this person managed to get so close to your house so many times without being noticed.

    • Eric,
It was a small subdivision, 20 homes at the time but more rural/suburban. Houses were 20 to 30 feet apart with no fences and lots of trees. Check out any satellite imagery to get the real feel, our address was – 62 Corral Drive, Carbondale, Colorado 81623. The prime suspect was an accomplished hunter, used to moving with great stealth. He also moved to our rooftop after the cameras went in. We just did not find this out in time. Another reader just shared a story about “penny tapping.” Basically take any coin and attach it to a string with a bandaid or tape and then swing it at a window. VERY loud and startling noise! This could easily be what he was doing from the roof. Victims need to know all this in order to better protect themselves. Stalkers are dangerous and can be sophisticated in their stalking. The means their ways of tracking and tormenting of their victims is growing faster than law enforcement can keep up with. Unless victims are working hard at staying safe they all too likely are not safe, another thing we learned much too late.

    • We know who was stalking her. She knew and she identified him after about a month of incidents. I believe he is a serial stalker. There was an accomplice and there were people that lied to protect him so no, it wasn’t gang stalking. There are different stalker typologies and many have things in common, but if you look up predatory stalkers, Morgan’s stalker fits the typology to a tee.

      • Serial meaning: he single stalked victims one after another and other people HELPED him??? Sounds almost like gangstalking. Has he been arrested? I have so many perps he might show up on the street in front of me.

        • That is exactly what I meant by serial. And I believe it will eventually be proven as I know of others now.

With criminals that are psychopaths it is common for others that know them to want to help them – they are very convincing. Psychopaths can often be seen by others as being charming and trustworthy, holding steady, normal jobs. Some even have families and seemingly-loving relationships with a partner. While they tend to be well-educated, they may also have learned a great deal on their own.

When a psychopath engages in criminal behavior, they tend to do so in a way that minimizes risk to themselves. They will carefully plan criminal activity to ensure they don’t get caught, having contingency plans in place for every possibility. Psychopaths have no feelings towards others and feel they are superior and can fool everyone. They are very convincing liars.

I don’t believe Morgan’s stalker will show up on the street in front of you unless you live in a place where he is. Are you in Colorado?

          • One day I will identify myself on my blog with my state but not now. I know someone who might be a psychopath. This person does not stalk, but, oh wow what a manipulator!

            • I hope for the best for you…always trust your intuition. No need to identify yourself here – just want you to know that unless you are located where Morgan’s stalker is then I don’t think he is involved in your stalking. Take care!

  4. What made you concentrate on this man as the stalker, i have watched the ID show, years ago and recently watched a repeat of dr phil. I don’t know how you decided it was this man?

    • We had no idea for the first month who was involved in the stalking – then our wildlife camera caught a picture of him and one of our neighbors ID’d him from the picture – we still weren’t convinced and kept investigating other possibilities, although the sheriffs also believed it was him…then he started following Morgan in the car and she ID’d him, along with his female accomplice. He is listed as the “suspect” in all the police reports. Morgan’s stalking case # was also put on his global criminal report – so yes, everyone knew he was her stalker, and everyone knew he had an accomplice.
