  1. Was I the only one who was pissed that the Garfield Sherrif’s department said there was no evidence of a stalker?? Did I hear that wrong?? Did they not discover the tracks in the berm, the footprints outside, see the photos from the wildlife camera and ultimately label the case a felony stalking case? Did I miss something or did they just lie on camera during the interview? – Valerie

    • Good point, Valerie. I believe Garco Sheriff’s Dept. reads this blog, too. If they do, I think Toni’s made it very clear how she appreciated all the efforts they made to find her stalker, but that their hands were tied in many ways. However, Sheriff Lou may have some explaining to do re. the investigation and evidence. I wonder what Morgan’s clothing-if it’s been tested for evidence-will reveal. What say you, Garco?

      • I watched it as it aired and I almost went upstairs to record it. I went online to see if they had a link for it, because it was quick, but I’m sure that’s what I heard. It was really borderline dismissive, I’m sorry to say. I was at first mad at CBS, but then it really struck me that I’m sure that’s what they said. They said that the morning after she passed, they cleared the house and examined everything and there was no evidence of any struggle or assault, no evidence that it was a crime scene. So I’m guessing they didn’t even collect evidence?? That’s how it sounded. And I’m sure they said there was no evidence after over 50 visits to your home in four months of a stalker being present. Boy do I want to see that again. I’m going to call News 4 and see if they will re-air it at ten. Did anyone else see it and hear what I believe I heard??? Regardless, I’m so glad that you are finally getting the information out there, and they did mention the blog and that as of (I forget which date, sorry) you had reached over 31,000 hits daily… would be nice if they would show the link to the blog. God, you poor poor people, I just can’t even imagine how frustrated YOU are, if I’m already THIS frustrated and angry! Well, its motivating for me, and for a lot of other people too, the more we feel like there’s an injustice the more likely we are to really hold their feet to the fire! – Valerie

      • Annie I have asked over and over about the clothing, but never got an answer. What is up with this?

I thought the number one rule of thumb is that once you have found yourself in a hole you stop digging – they just keep on digging…am I missing something here? Is this total arrogance? Do they think the good people of Garfield County Colorado are going to believe this? This was a felony stalking case that went on for 4 months – of course for the first 7 1/2 weeks it was considered misdemeanor trespassing, before a detective was assigned, and it became felony stalking, but it was 4 months of hell for Morgan, and then she was killed. Are they serious? We called so many times!!! After the detective was assigned, he met with us every week, except when he had surgery and missed a week. I have a detailed day-by-day record of occurrences during that time period. I have no idea if all of the officers who assured me they were filing a report did in fact file a report…again, I would think would have to have a record of that.

  2. Oh Toni I am so happy all your efforts are finally gaining momentum. Hopefully soon you will be sitting in a court room getting justice for your daughter.

  3. I missed the news and I cant find it on the website, do you know where I can find the interview? I am dying to see it! My prayers are constantly with you all!

  4. I tried to watch but ended up missing it 🙁 I hope that it is turned into a youtube video! Praying for you and your family!

    Melissa

  5. Hey all! Ok, so I called CBS and they said they will be re-airing a shorter version of the report during the second half of the newscast at 10 tonight. I told him it was already being heavily discussed on the message board, and that people would really appreciate it if there was any way to adjust the programming to re-air the original version. I also asked if they could make it available online, as a lot of people here do not have television, and he said that their tech department was working on that, and other stories and it would be posted online as soon as they were able to. So, those with Television (and if anyone has the ability to digitally record it – I only have a VCR to record on) please watch it and if you can get a digital copy just in case it doesn’t end up on their website that would be great. Once its on the website, hopefully Toni & Steve can find a way to get it copied to this blog?? I’m assuming yall have some tech savvy person who helps with all that?? Anyhow, I will definitely be watching again at ten! – Valerie

    • Thank you Valerie. I am in CA and obviously can’t see Denver news but I have been looking on the Denver CBS website for a link. There is a link to ‘listen live’ but not a direct link for the interview (yet). Hopefully with your call to them, they will be able to get that up soon.

    • It was re-aired but it was essentially cut to a 30second statement. Sherrif Lou’s final statement was “this case will remain closed.” I will definitely follow up with News4 if the link is not posted by the morning, and Toni and Steve, I’m pretty sure they would provide y’all with a digital copy of the entire story which aired at five if you contact them? However, I definitely think that any one and every one who feels like the Sherrifs Department and the Coroner have been not only been extremely lacking in grace and responsiveness, but their behavior at this point is appalling, needs to write to them, write to the local papers and demand a more comprehensive response. Toni & Steve, I live in Carbondale and if you are unable to view the story online, I will be happy to give you my tape of the short and disappointing 10pm story. Hopefully that won’t be necessary since so many people want to see the story and if News4 gets a link up that would be great. Sigh. Big hugs. – Valerie

  6. My heart goes out to your family. I can not begin to imagine what you all went through and are still going through. It is so obvious how much you loved and adored Morgan. Stay strong, believe that justice will prevail and know that many, many people are praying for your family.

    • Thank you so much – this gets to be so overwhelming at times…but we will never give up fighting for justice for Morgan and everyone else out there that needs someone to stand up for them.

  7. I have been reading this blog, and have been so upset. I cannot imagine the loss after you have invested so much. Then to have it ruled a suicide, which is just a slap in the face. I am awaiting the report where it is definitely something more. I wish there was more I can do to help you and the loss of your child. All my prayers are with you as you continue on your journey. But Morgan is touching so many lives. Thank you for sharing!!

  8. I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve read your story, and I’m all the way in Charlottesville, Virginia.

If there was no sign of an assault or of anybody gaining entry into the house, I wonder how the stalker got in? Or how the lethal dose of amitriptyline got into her system? Do you have a theory on how she was killed? I’m so sorry for all that you have been through, and I can see through the abundance of pictures that Morgan had such a joy for life – suicide seems so unlikely. I hope you find answers soon.

    • Jennifer I do have answers for all of your excellent questions, but until I get this investigation going again those are a few things I do not believe I can share right now – if this person is every brought to justice there are some things we can not release to the public or it might not be good. So sorry – believe me I wish I could release more information today, but for the moment I have to hold back. There have been a lot of clues and information given from people in these comments that actually confirm a lot of what I already know but I think not understanding how all the pieces go together, up until the day I found Morgan’s body, is hard for someone that hasn’t heard the end of the story yet. But I will tell you this Morgan was the last person on this earth that would commit suicide, she was happy, spiritual, fun-loving, caring, had a puppy she treated like her own baby, loved school, dance, piano, singing and so much more…she loved life!

  9. I’m not a local, but wondering if some kind of picketing or demonstration in front of the coroners office or sheriff dept in town might be called for. Need to show these authorities that action is called for and they need to start doing their jobs.

    • I don’t know if picketing is quiet in order, but I do believe people have the right to go the Garfield County Commissioners meeting, they are having a meeting in Carbondale this Monday, September 10th at 9:00 am at the Carbondale Town Hall, 511 Colorado Ave. Carbondale, CO perhaps we should all stop by and see what plans they have to protect their citizens! And if they think that maybe it would be a good idea for law enforcement to adopt the US Department of Justice’s suggestion for creating an effective stalking protocol, It focuses on the need to establish collaborative partnerships with the community and to develop protocols to help law enforcement address stalking more effectively.

  10. I recorded the segment, do you have an email I can send it to, I cannot upload it to this form or fb. Thanks!

    • Don’t be sad – he is just making things harder for himself, so is the whole county for that matter.

They know what really happened, they know what they did, and what they are doing now is wrong, and remember what I said about the truth always remaining the truth – more of the truth will be coming out shortly. I kept holding back trying to let GarCo do the right thing and simply acknowledge that mistakes were made….The Garfield Sheriff’s Department is wofully behind the curve on effectively dealing with stalking situations. Steve and I were not up to the task of effectively dealing with a stalking situation, if either of us or better yet both of us were really effective Morgan would still be with us today. We will always come from truth and love, but we will no longer sit back and allow the head of the Sheriff’s Department to act as if nothing went wrong in an investigation where the stalker relentlessly pursued his prey for 4 months and then she turned up dead. Their arrogance, and incompetence astounds me, and if it is allowed to continue will only make this valley a happy hunting ground for criminals, and I do not want what happened to Morgan to happen to any other girls!

      • As has been poointed out, both the Sherriff and the Coroner are ELECTED officials. They are not acting in the best interests of their communities and their constituents. We need to begin a grassroots movement to ensure that they realize come election day just how profoundly they have failed the people they are elected to protect and serve. I for one will become an campaign activist to ensure that neither of them serves another term after this atrocity. Toni & Steve – keep up the good fight and know you have a virtual army amassing behind you, ready to do your bidding to ensure that this story is not only told, but that it brings about justice for your lovely Morgan, as well as getting a stalker and killer off the streets, protecting my daughters, as well. I was really hoping that I didn’t hear him say what I thought he said. Now I’m just sad that he has shown just how heartless one can be when protecting their own interests and trying to cover up their own gross negligence and mishandling which led to an unnecessary and tragic loss of life. – Valerie

        • Valerie – it just so happens that the Garfield County Commissioners are having a meeting in Carbondale on Monday, September 10th at 9:00 am at the Carbondale Town Hall, 511 Colorado Ave. Carbondale, CO perhaps we should all stop by and see what plans they have to protect their citizens!

          • Toni – I’m there!! I think you need to invite all of your supporters through both the facebook page and this blog because guess what! the County Commissioners are ELECTED as well as it is ELECTION SEASON!!!! I have no problem helping to make sure that finding answers, catching a murderer and getting some measure of justice for Morgan and safety and peace of mind for the rest of us becomes something which they can not ignore! I hope we can show up in numbers which can’t be dismissed!!! – Valerie

    • I think he is digging his own grave. I can’t even believe this. WHY? Ugh. I work in law enforcement and I cannot fathom having officers do so poorly at their job. They will get what they deserve.

  11. Thank you to the person who posted the link, I was finally able to find the video on my own.

My firt, and what would seem to be the most obvious question would be if there was traces of the medication (partially disolved or fully disolved pills or residue) found in her stomache? If she had injested the medication of her own free will, then there would have been NO possible way for the first coroners report to rule the cuase of death as “Natural.” Secondly, that being stated, on what grounds were they able to change the cause of death, seven months after her passing, to suicide?? Furthermore, if it was acute intoxication, how was the medication administered? Since, clearly at her time of death if medication was present in her stomache, (the only way to prove someone took it of their own free will would be to find the medication whole or partially in the stomache or intestional track) then there would have been no mistaking this for “marked pulmonary edema,” or fluid buildup in the lungs, and “acute intermittent porphyria.” Either way, ALL that this proves is that the coroner is CLEARLY inadequaite to do his/her job! The fact that this whole situation sits well with the G.C. Sherriffs is even more disturbing, when any laymen can easily see that this makes ZERO sense!! What can be done to bring in a well known Pathologist, Toxicologist, Medical Examiner, someone who KNOWS what they are doing, someone with enough of a conscience and a brain to see that this must be corrected!
I dont even know your family or Morgan and this case, HER LIFE, is all that I can think about! She could be my child, or myself. We must answer these questions, not only for Morgan, but for HIS NEXT VICTIM!

    • We have brought in (months ago) a very well respected, principled, and intelligent Forensic Pathologist, all on our own for a 2nd opinion, he was the one that officially told us that Dr. Kurtzman (GarCo hired pathologist) was wrong and Morgan died of a lethal dose of Amitriptyline (along with something else), not “Natural Causes” like he wanted us to believe – we gave Dr. Kurtzman every expert he asked to hear from , along with more, and he would not change his incorrect conclusion – why?

Now the official typed results from the Coroner that we asked for the 2nd opinion will be out next week…this Forensic Pathologist is very disappointed in the Garfield County Coroner’s office just as we are, and I am extremely disturbed by Lou Villario’s position that he has taken, why is he doing this? Is he trying to cover up something here, or is it pure arrogance? The truth needs to come out, procedures need to change, and the public needs to be protected – this valley should not be a happy hunting ground for criminals.

Later today we will start to release more information to our readers that we have not yet released. The Sheriff’s office knows, but for some very strange reason they certainly do not want to admit to that information…well guess what Lou, the truth will come out, and I really wish you had done the right thing…you were given every opportunity to do just that.

    • Sorry the one thing I forgot to answer for you was that we were told over and over again, verbally and in writing that Morgan did not have any pills or ever remnants of pills in her stomach. She also had no alcohol and no illegal drugs in her tox results. Let me know if I forgot to answer something.

      • Yea, I am reading all this almost a year later. Someone commented about the drug being available in a trans-dermal form for horses? Which really gave me chills because you have a stable so close, and because it seems likely that this a-hole only needed to put that stuff in her soap, shampoo, on doorknobs, etc. With DMSO (I think) it may make it even easier to have poisoned her with it. If I can some up with these theories, you would think LE would. Okay, I should probably wait until I’m done reading this blog all the way through before commenting further. Other than to tell you how much this breaks my heart, what you and your daughter have gone through.

        • Thank you for the love, and feeling you have just sent to us. This is the hardest thing I can ever imagine going through, and we are not done yet, because we have not seen justice for Morgan yet…but we will. There are extremely smart experts out there that have offered their help in this case and we have learned so very much. Hopefully when this all comes out it will help others in law enforcement to take stalking seriously and to save other families from going through this.

  12. Toni, Have you checked the Garfield Co, Eagle Co, & the Pitkin Co inmate records for the “Quite Days” to see if anyone on your suspect list was in jail. They are public records…..You can see date admitted and date released and charges. Bless you Toni

  13. I have not checked those records and never even thought of that – I promise you Steve will jump on this right away…to bad the Sheriff’s Detective never though of that one. Thanks so much – excellent point!

  14. Have you thought about starting a petition on Change.org? They can be circulated through social media with a link to this blog. I’d be happy to start it myself if need be!! Surely if the Garfield Sheriff’s dept were to become aware that people EVERYWHERE know of their screw-ups and cover-ups, and demand to see something done, then we might all have a shot at helping you push this thing further!
