A ray of light at the end of what promises to be a very long tunnel…here is what you have all been waiting to see

This morning I was getting ready for a meeting, today’s blog was written, but would not be posted until later.  A fax came in, it was what I expected, and as I promised, I will share it with you.  It is the truth, and you are free to make your own decision as to what is going on here in Garfield County.

First a word from Morgan –

Morgan thumbs up

Morgan may not be here in body, but her spirit wants us all to know the truth

And then the fax –

The second opinion in Morgan’s death, page 1

The 2nd opinion of Morgan’s death, page 2

If I feel as if our County Coroner Trey Holt ranks right down there with the stalker, perhaps I am overreacting – what do you think?

A lot of you are pulling for the County to re-open this investigation, and I appreciate that.  But I don’t agree.  For Steve and I the relationship with the Sheriff’s department turned very adversarial when we had other experts review Morgan’s manner of death, that Dr. Kurtzman said was natural causes, and then had the gall to share the opinions of other experts with them, to suggest they were mistaken perhaps.  It was the old, don’t confuse us with facts, our minds are already made up.  And the Coroner Trey Holt is another story, he has been out of touch since day one.  I was threatened  that Morgan’s manner of death would be changed to suicide if I did not back off of trying to have her death changed to a homicide.  And yes, I reported this verbal threat to the Sheriff’s department, just like I reported her missing jewelry.

Now, Morgan’s case needs a fresh set of eyes and ears – perhaps the CBI or the Attorney General’s office, we just don’t know at this point where to go.  We know we need officials we can trust, officials who don’t threaten us.  Officials who respect our rights as victims, and above all – the rights of Morgan Ingram, which is what Steve, and I fight for.  Oh, and not to be melodramatic, but if there is a murder / suicide with our names on it, don’t believe it.  Steve and I were high school sweet hearts and we celebrated 41 years of dating, and 36 years of marriage this summer.  And while this has easily been the biggest challenge we have ever faced, like everything else that has challenged us, we will do it together.

Love you all, and thank you so very much for all of your support during these difficult times, which has meant so much to Steve and I.

  1. Mrs Ingram, My jaw hit the floor! The only thing I can think of is maybe if you both contacted The Vidocq Society

    • Um Vidocq Society only works if Law Enforcement works hand in hand. So forget that. Maybe down the road if another agency you approve of investigates then I would call them. This way you have a second opinion looking. Verify if you know what I mean.

          • It wouldn’t hurt to ask them to review the case. Maybe they will make an exception or lead you in another direction that might be helpful. It is something to check into.

  2. Stunned to see the date rape drug in there. It is making a lot more sense. I suggest higher up too. Did they even check to see if she was sexually assaulted? I would certainly hope so.

    • They said by looking at the body they did not think she was but I have no idea if they even tested for it…this whole thing makes me so sick to my stomach and I just don’t know who in the State of Colorado can help us!

  3. You are an amazing family and I pray that the truth comes to light with your precious daughters case as well as the inexcusable actions (non actions) by the Garfield County Sheriff’s office and Coroner TREY HOLT! God Bless you and your family, Mrs. Ingram

  4. was the flexeril on the original report? If so that is just so wrong! Was anyone taking that medication in the home that they explained it away?

  5. No they never tested for anything like that when they did the autopsy so it was not on the original report – and no one in the family had flexeril – I had never even heard about it before. I am so far beyond disappointed in Dr. Kurtzman the original Forensic Pathologist and our Coroner Trey Holt!

  6. What an infuriating thing to say to a family who has lost their daughter!! These people are completely insane!! I have read most of your posts and from what I gather, Morgan was a very happy person despite the actions of her stalker against her. For them to claim this was a suicide is just them being lazy and/or trying to cover something up. I am happy to see that this second opinion supports the suspicion of homicide. And the date-rape drug is definitely a big red flag! How could they overlook something like that??!! I hope they come to their senses and further investigate this case. Someone needs to be brought to justice. Your family is in my thoughts!!!!

    • Thank you, and Morgan was not only a very happy person she was contented. Very low maintenance, Steve used to joke about her. She loved her animals, loved spending time hanging out with friends or talking to me in the kitchen while I was making dinner. She liked to crash out on the couch and watch movies with the dogs lying all over her.

And it not just this report, there are many other experts we have consulted with before taking issue so strongly with the Sheriffs and Coroner. We have two more experts to consult with before the defense of Morgan begins. Strange how it works, isn’t it? Why should we ever have to defend a victim? I thought we ended that years ago…why couldn’t they just look for the logical reason for her death and not just rubber stamp it natural causes and then change it to suicide after we argued with them for months – are they above the law? Are they too arrogant to do the right thing when evidence is brought forth? Or is is that we just don’t have enough money in the county to spend the time it takes to do a correct investigation and solve a crime?

      • I think that often times when there is a crime committed, law enforcement does not have the funding to investigate many of these crimes. This past December, my husband’s business was broken into and the police collected evidence including full sets of very clear fingerprints, but told us that they most likely would not be processed!! Very frustrating!! I can understand when it’s a small theft (they got $250 and vandalized the inside) that they wouldn’t pursue aggressively, but in Morgan’s case it is a life that was taken, the most precious thing in the world!! At this point, I would hope that they would reopen the case, investigate it thoroughly with a fine tooth comb if needed!! Even if it was just to save face. They owe it to Morgan, to your family and to everyone in this area to find the person responsible for her death. This person is obviously walking around among us feeling pretty darn cocky that he got away with this and it is a horrifying thought!! About the book you mentioned, The Gift of Fear, I remember seeing the author on the Oprah Winfrey show a few years back and it was a very eye-opening discussion. Not sure if the footage is available anywhere, but it has changed my way of looking at situations. Definitely a must-read book!! I will keep following your blog, I have been sharing it with everyone!! I am praying with all my heart that actions will be taken soon!! I so admire your courage and strength!!!!

        • Thank you so much for your support – to be honest with you we don’t always feel very strong…and we don’t always think we can go forward with reliving it all over and over every day, but we know in our hearts this is part of our journey and we feel deep down in side that eventually it will help others.

  7. Mrs. Ingram, I must be honest with you. I have a love-hate relationship with your blog. Each day, for the past several days, I come here to read about Morgan, an amazing young woman, whom you have kindly shared with us, complete strangers. And, as we get to know Morgan through her family and friends, in your posts, we, too, know that if she was our friend, our sister, our daughter, we would have loved her as much as you all do. And, we also know that we would want to fight for her, to get the truth, to find some closure to this tragedy. I hate that this blog has to exist. I hate that with each post, my heart breaks because I know there is no happy ending and, yet, I am compelled to read every post. I hate that Morgan had a stalker who terrorized her and her family. I hate that he is still out there and that he may be doing this to another young woman, who, like Morgan, will put on a strong front, strive to move forward with life, and, yet, live in fear every day. Most of all, I hate that your beautiful daughter isn’t here to share this story herself.
Mrs. Ingram, I hope you know how much support you have from your readers. We want what you want. We want the life of your daughter to not have ended in vain.

P.S. – Shame on the authorities in your county for not standing up for your daughter, a victim. It is unconscionable.

    • Rachael you have an amazing insight into this blog. I to at times am amazingly torn apart as I write each day. The few times recently I have compacted a few days into one I felt it was a good break, as Morgan texts in today’s blog, “a metal health day” Yet I am so compelled to continue her story. And trust me, while there is no doubt that Morgan did not want to go, she has maked our sharing of it mandatory for the others that will be helped. It is the greatest honor we can give our daughter.

  8. how could they reclassify this a suicide after finding flexeril on 6 june 2012 on retesting of the gastric contents?!!!! And you do not have this medication in your home and she had never taken this medication.

this is just wrong on so many levels!

    • It is wrong, I agree so very much. There were also more compounds, equally disturbing, on which the tests were inconclusive as they ran out of sample. Morgan and Steve and I are the victims and we were never notified another test was being done. And now we are finding out now that they can never be done.

  9. God bless you! Stay strong take you viteys. I got cold chills when I read this report. Who can we call or write to place some pressure on Garco. I thought of you and Steve when I heard the report of what happened in Missouri Heights. God Bless and keep you!

    • Thank you, I find it hard to eat at all lately. And when we have the next steps in mind I will try to give all of you that want to help a little better direction.

      • You have an army now….please try and take care of yourself and Steve. We will all get to the bottom of this if it is the last thing we all do. My friend who works for Dr. Drew sent me the below response after I sent her your story. I will let you know if she sends me anything else.

“Tragic story and very sad – I will certainly pass along, I think Drew would like this, if not I will give it to the Nancy Grace folks. I will keep you posted”

        • thank you for your kind words and trying to advance this to a national level…I appreciate your efforts and it’s funny you mention an army because lately I do feel like their is an army of very caring and passionate people as well as an army of heavenly angels that are all working together to make the changes that are needed. You are definitely one of our army of caring passionate people and you are definitely a mover and a shaker 🙂

  10. This letter shows me that you are making a difference!!!! All the love in the world can not bring Morgan back but all of this love and hard work shows that LOVE never ends!!! She made a impact during her short life and is making a hugh impact after her passing. So many loved her and so many MORE are loving her today. What a legacy she has left behind. I would be so proud.

      • It is an important thing for us to realize the impact Morgan has had and will continue to have. Steve and I were truly blessed to have had such a beautiful and loving daughter as we are so truly blessed with all of our children, and all of you.

  11. can you contact the media and update them with the contents of this report? I bet they would be very interested in these findings!

    • Yes, tomorrow I do plan on contacting the media, and among other things I will start to ask for retractions of previous statements.

It is almost a tactic of the Sheriff, Forensic Pathologist Dr. Kurtzman and the Coroner Trey Holt’s offices to refer to the idea Morgan had been murdered as my idea alone, when it was anything but, and they know that. Experts and specialists have come to that opinion and told us, as well as telling Dr. Kurtzman, and that is why I believe Morgan was murdered, not because we came to the conclusion ourselves.

Dr. Dobersen believes very strongly that she did not commit suicide, and I don’t know what GarCo’s issue is as they even told us over and over again from the day her body was found until months later, without an investigation that they also believed she had not committed suicide. I guess since we never backed down they thought the suicide card that they had threatened me with would shut us down…sorry, didn’t work!

      • You may have already found out that County Attorneys work for the County’s elected officials, not the public. Likewise, the State Attorney General works for the State’s elected officials, not the public. You may not find much help there.

        • That’s why we are asking the Governor to ask the Attorney General to open the investigation…that was the suggestion of the F.B.I. agent we consulted.

  12. I have been reading your blog since a friend posted it to her facebook page over Labor Day weekend. I grew up in the valley and came back here after graduating college because I love this place so much. It makes me angry that these crimes can go on here under our very sheltered noses. The fact that lately the newspapers rarely cover these kinds of stories (especially The Glenwood Post Independent), and the law enforcement and coroners can fail so miserably at their jobs is sickening. You’d think that Vallario could have used his high powered military tank vehicle to scare off creeps like this… but I digress. The fact that the law enforcement agencies don’t communicate in this valley is also pretty obnoxious. When I first started reading this blog, I admit I was on the fence about suicide/homicide. But it is becoming more and more clear that whatever happened to your daughter was not of her choosing. From what I have heard about Morgan, even if she had decided to end her life, which seems unlikely, she would have left you some kind of note or remembrance with an explanation- which, from reading this blog, sounds like did not happen.

The media world has changed, and blogging and facebook/social media now seem to be the best ways to get accurate information out to the masses- so congratulations on your tremendous efforts. I am sending out strength and my condolences to you and your family. You are doing this entire valley an incredible service by shining a light on the law enforcement, coroners and media’s failings. Perhaps with enough angry and motivated people, these organizations will think twice about the next case that comes up, and someone’s life can be saved because of what you are doing.

    • Steve and I have been talking about that very thing a lot lately – is this how you go after justice in the year 2012 – with a blog? The blog has brought a far greater amount of attention that endless days sitting in offices, and being nodded at ever brought to this case. And what you read about this on comments is about a third of the responses to the blog, the other two thirds come through the tip line, and I have heard about crime after crime, about many similar stalkings cases to ours that were not resolved, and not in the press, and certainly not shared with us by law enforcement – in fact some of them are the same ones I asked the felony stalking detective about and he actually denied these cases had ever happened, and now the victims are contacting us privately. The public needs to be told what is going on in order to have better outcomes.

Justice in the year 2012 sounds like a new blog that should be coming up next – what do you think?

  13. Do you have reason to believe that you are in danger?? Your comment about the murder/suicide with your name on it has me scared for you safety! If you have an inkling that this is the case, please relocate elsewhere and keep yourselves safe!! I am worried for you guys. If you’re not going to move, can you please invest in a real big, mean guard dog? And an arsenal of weapons??

    • You are so sweet, but please don’t be worried – I know now if anything happened to us we have so many people that will take over where we left off so all is good. But I do wish we still have our 2 doberman’s from back in the 70’s – I loved those 2 dogs! They were such sweethearts, but they knew when they needed to take care of business.

  14. probably too late but……if you havent washed them you can get the p.j.’s sheets, comforter, blanket or bedding tested for any body fluids that might of not been easily seen (from somone other than Morgan), and touch DNA. My little sister was murdered 22 yrs ago, still unsolved and they are still testing her clothing for DNA and finding it and it’s not her DNA. I am still hoping for justice and hope you get what you need for Morgan. Thank you for giving Morgan LIFE twice so that we could get to know her. xxxx

    • A retired Federal Officer had a chance to review the case right before it was officially closed and he was flabbergasted by what had not been done in the investigation. In fact the first evening he was here all we talked about was all the things that were not done – and an extremely glaring one to him was the failure to collect all the bedding, sheets, pillow cases, blankets, mattress cover, etc. At least 4 times in our conversation he would stop, shake his head and say, “I can’t believe they did not collect those things, how could they have not done that?”

  15. OK,, I have been going through posts left by all of us, someone posted a very good observation of the stalker had a hat on backwards, so I did did some Facebook creeping myself, and in the pictures taken by your game can see some sort of flames or a design on the cap, if indeed that is what I am seeing, anyhow check out the hat K has on for his FB profile picture, enlarge it, I hope that this proves to be a positive find

    • We will keep checking everything – thanks for trying to help. The more ears and eyes out there will eventually get us to the truth.

  16. It is horrifying to me that a person’s life seems so meaningless to those professionals who are employed and educated to protect and preserve. The misconduct is tremendous and dispicible. The very people who are to protect this young woman seemed to do nothing more than brush this under the rug and make it go away because they didn’t know what to do with this case. Ineptness and now a precious life is taken away and mishandled. My heart is deeply saddened. I only hope that knowledgable and reputable people will take over this case.

    • I pray that exactly what you said will come true – there are really good people out there that are in law enforcement or in some other capacity that can help with this I just know it. It just has to get to those people and then I believe the truth will come out once a proper investigation is done.

      • The word I get stuck on in in this comment is educated. They might not be educated in how to deal with a stalker or possible stalker. There is not an academy they go through or a program (I don’t think based on their actions) they are required to complete before being employed. There needs to be education before and ongoing during the employment of officers. If doctors, real estate agents, electricians and many others have to to it, why don’t the law enforcers? I do believe the citizens they protect pay enough to have earned the right to know their protectors know what they’re doing.

          • I agree – I believe they do, but education is an ongoing thing especially if the good guys want to stay a step ahead of the bad guys

        • I think they need to budget for continuing education but mostly changing protocol to one that is tried and true and that the National Center for Victims of Crimes (by the Federal Government) suggests as the best protocol…at least try.

          • I believe a lot of what they didn’t do should not have required training. To any normal person it would just be called “common sense”. I am in awe. I am so very sorry for your loss.

            • You would think that logically they would and that is where I made the mistake – I trusted that they would take evidence, that they would test things, but I was too trusting and they did no such thing – this was a felony stalking case and the CBI should have been called in the morning we found her body.

  17. Toni, I had no idea of the extent of your search and blogs or anything about Morgan’s stalker. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I do hope that you will find resolution and that Morgan’s memory will be restored in truth. Thank you for sharing your story with so many who find it relevant to their own lives.
much love and always in the Light,
    Randi

    • Randi thank you so much, and the Light you refer to is helping us to move forward and do this, and we will always remember to do it with love because of that Light. Take care!

  18. In case some people don’t read the comments, I think you should point out the “3 broken finger nails”… ANY female who’s had a French manicure put on knows how hard it is to break a nail, especially when they are new. The amount of force needed to break one is a lot but 3?????? This doesn’t add up that they “mishandled Morgan’s body at the funeral home”. They SEVERELY mishandled her or they missed a KEY piece of evidence.

      • they were her real nails – Morgan didn’t do fake, but they were just done the day before we found her body and that was one of the BIG questions I asked Dr. Kurtzman on our first conference call – he said he did not cut her nails and did not notice any tears on them and they were in good condition with a french manicure on them when her body left his facility so if something happened to her nails it had to have happened in transporting her to the funeral home so it is the funeral homes responsibility – so here’s my problem with this it was her 3 nails, pinky, ring, and middle fingers on her right hand (she was right handed) and they were either cut or torn at an angle so to me it is a BIG problem, either a defensive wound (but we were told there was not sign of trauma) or her body was mishandled but the funeral home is owned by Trey Holt the Coroner that would never return our calls or letters…so now what? It doesn’t give me a lot of hope that other things were not as they appeared in this and as a mom is turns my stomach.

        • I’ve heard of people injecting substances under the fingernails in order to hide that it was done. Perhaps the perp injected her under the nails. If no investigation was done, this would not have been found either.

          • I heard about that too and that is why Forensic Pathologists that do autopsies are supposed to remove the nail polish and look under their nails but guess what in Morgan’s case that did not happen.

  19. I agree with Rachel. I too have a love-hate relationship with your blog. Morgan seemed absolutely wonderful and she’s lovely to hear about, but I hate that you’re even having to write it and have to go through so much to find justice.

    Still in my prayers,
    Nicole

    • I hate having to relive it everyday all over again, and so does Steve – I was worried that he might not be able to, but I needed help – I just couldn’t get through it without his help, and he has been able to make it through…it is our new journey and we will not give up until we do everything we can.

      Thanks for your prayers Nicole

    • Flexiril has been used as a date rape drug and so has amitriptyline – I don’t even want to think about the serial rapists/murderers that have used amitriptyline so I won’t.

  20. Is there any way for you to get copies of all the police reports from when the police came to visit? If so that would be very clear evidence of a cover up and provoke more people to take an interest. I’m sure many people would love to see copies of those posted.

  21. I discovered your blog about a week ago and could not stop reading from the second I started it. I am appalled at what happened to your brilliant Morgan and white-knuckled furious at your treatment by law enforcement and the authorities. I posted on my FB page and my friend said she has contacts with Dr. Drew and Nancy Morgan’s production team. She sent your blog to them. If it is what you want (the media attention I mean), I hope they will take up your story and share it with the world and truly find justice for Morgan.

I am also extraordinarily relieved to read the 2nd opinion and the scathing review of Dr. Kurtzman’s work. I hope this is the next step to getting this case re-opened and solved (considering it seems you have done all their work for them already….DRINK HORSE DRINK!!!!)

    A

  22. Thank you for posting this link. However, after reading the article, I read the single comment which had been made in response to the article. I was quite simply infuriated and stunned at the MANY blatent lies contained in this response. Toni, just one more thing you need to take a look at and evaluate, and determine whether you even care to respond in THAT forum to information which you have already addressed here, and those who have read this blog know to be false. However, you or someone in your circle needs to read this and decide whether to counter in order to shut that imbecile down. My guess is that it is someone with a personal stake in the outcome of this case, and public perception in the meantime. Please read as soon as possible. Once again, tears of rage are flowing for your loss, and for Morgan’s horrific experience. As always, love and hugs.
    Valerie

      • God Toni… once again, nothing to offer but support and sympathy and love and light and honor of Morgan and all you are doing to help others, seek the truth, and jeeeeez… just get through the day without some other malice, negligence or simple disregard for justice and honesty getting in the way. There was a response to the fallacious commentary, pointing people to the blog and the truth; I will and I’m sure y’all will continue to monitor (one more thing) the progress of this exchange, if it continues. Makes me want to kick something 😉 Instead, just sending hugs.
        Valerie
PS. You must be even more exhausted because you are so wonderful about responding to EVERY comment and post on this blog. You may reach a point where you can’t do that, and that’s ok. You will have to give yourself permission to let some of that go, if necessary. People WILL understand. <3 Start by giving yourself permission to not respond to this follow-up to your follow-up hehe!

  23. the police need to look at the neighborhood you were living in at the time. The persons who stalked Morgan knew her every move. I think the focus of this investigation needs to be on ? ***** and her friend Hannah ******. They met at a ***** and were living with one another at the time of the stalking. They lived down the street from where morgan and her family lived. ?’s boyfriend at the time was Keenan ********, I am no police detective but lets be honest here these 3 people should have been the first ones investigated by the police. On the days when Morgan was not being stalked (Toni calls these quiet days) the police need to find out the whereabouts of these 3 individuals. They all have very strong motives as to why they would want to kill Morgan. I really in my heart feel as though they got away with murder.

    • Sorry I had to edit your comment – I want people to be heard, but I don’t want certain things let out. The first thing I want to ask you is do you have any first hand knowledge of the people you are commenting about, and if so we would really like to know what their strong motives were to want to kill Morgan? I know here is not the place to give us information, but like others are doing if you could just go in on the tip line on the website to let us know what you know (anonymous is fine) that would be awesome. Thanks so much for trying to help Morgan with any information you might have.

Also, if you or anyone else knows if Keenan died his hair blond at or around the time the wildlife camera shot the first picture of the offender could you please contact me to let me know what you know. Thanks so much!

      • Are you sure you are looking for someone with blond hair in the wildlife camera shot? Those cameras often invert dark and light colors, so a dark shirt, dark hair would appear as light shirt, light hair. You see this often on security cameras where dark colored cars appear as light in the video. It might be worthwhile to test this out, if you have not already.

        • Actually you are right I really don’t know if I should be looking for someone with blond hair but I thought I should ask…I really wish we had a good investigator to do this…this definitely is not my calling. 🙁

      • Toni, all my love and prayers to you and Steve (and all of Morgan’s true friends). I strongly believe that the keying and vandalism of Morgan’s car is in the beginning of this stalking, and that some of the folks Morgan thought of as friends were not actually her friends, and betrayed her, her whereabouts, and your plans/attempts to catch the stalker(s) to those who were stalking her. I believe that there is a “group” of stalkers, and that there was a whole lot more planning and deliberation to terrorize Morgan, and then you and Steve once she confided in you and you became involved. Please look at earlier events, such as the keying, and find who and what had occurred during that time (or just prior to. I believe that you will find corroborating evidence, or at least the start of this, buried back then. (And no, I have no connection to anyone; just my thoughts).

You will remain in my prayers, and I will continue to follow this as best I can in the coming weeks and months. Justice WILL be gained, I am certain of that.

        • Thanks so much and I will do exactly like you said because remember I mentioned intuition well my intuition told me something very similar to what you are describing.

  24. Our baby monitor takes a similar picture and only inverts some colors. The white crib looks white while the baby’s dark PJ’s also look white. I think it has to do with how the material reflects the night image. I think the body type and manerism of the stalker look eerily similar to one of the friends with the initials JTM. He has a couple odd fb posts, too about people watching. God bless and good luck. I truly hope you find Justice for Morgan. (((HUGS)))
