{"id":9253,"date":"2018-02-16T10:24:38","date_gmt":"2018-02-16T16:24:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/morgansstalking.com\/?p=9253"},"modified":"2018-02-16T10:24:38","modified_gmt":"2018-02-16T16:24:38","slug":"the-broken-coroners-system-in-colorado","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/morgansstalking.com\/?p=9253","title":{"rendered":"The Broken Coroner&#8217;s System in Colorado&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"9255\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/morgansstalking.com\/?attachment_id=9255\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/morgansstalking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/images.jpg?fit=296%2C170&amp;ssl=1\" data-orig-size=\"296,170\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-meta=\"{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}\" data-image-title=\"images\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"\" data-large-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/morgansstalking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/images.jpg?fit=296%2C170&amp;ssl=1\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9255\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/morgansstalking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/images.jpg?resize=296%2C170&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"296\" height=\"170\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>FACTS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>To be a coroner<\/strong>, one merely needs to be 18, a U.S. citizen, a resident of the county he or she will serve and cannot have a felony conviction.<\/li>\n<li>In a survey of Colorado coroners\u00a0across the state, <strong>only a handful are forensic pathologists.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Colorado\u2019s 63 county <strong>coroners<\/strong> are mostly elected and <strong>aren\u2019t required to have a medical degree.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Colorado <strong>coroners<\/strong> are <strong>ELECTED<\/strong> and as such they do not have to answer to the\u00a0DA, to law enforcement, to defense lawyers, to the hospital establishment, or to the medical establishment.<\/li>\n<li>When the coroner is not a pathologist (as in Morgan&#8217;s case) they contract with an <strong>independent pathologist<\/strong>\u00a0(Pathologist Dr. Robert Kurtzman did Morgan&#8217;s autopsy) who does the autopsy for a fee. \u00a0The more autopsies a pathologist can do &#8216;quickly&#8217; the more money they make,\u00a0<strong>an obvious conflict of interest.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The coroner in Morgan&#8217;s case, Trey Holt, <strong>NEVER<\/strong> spoke to us, <strong>NEVER<\/strong> got on the phone with us, <strong>NEVER<\/strong>\u00a0would speak with us when we showed up at his office (they always said he was <strong>NEVER<\/strong> there), <strong>NEVER<\/strong> would allow a meeting to be scheduled with us, <strong>NEVER<\/strong> answered out letters, <strong>NEVER<\/strong> even would speak with the FBI agent that was trying to facilitate a meeting between us all so we could show him the evidence that his contracted pathologist would not look at.<\/li>\n<li>Colorado has counties with <strong>deputy coroners<\/strong> with <strong>no training in death. investigations, as in Garfield County, CO<\/strong> &#8211; exactly like the deputy coroner that came to Morgan&#8217;s crime scene &#8211; the coroner <strong>NEVER<\/strong> came to the crime scene.<\/li>\n<li>Colorado is one of 14 states that still relies on a <strong>civilian coroner system<\/strong>, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention &#8211; the other states\u00a0have gone to centralized medical examiner systems, where doctors, not civilians, are in charge.<\/li>\n<li>Many times it comes down to whether or not the coroner wants to spend money out of their budget, to investigate &#8211; investigations are expensive, and testing is expensive, but here we are, citizens\/co-victims who think the coroner is going to investigate and tell them if their loved one was really murdered&#8230;but that is not what is happening &#8211; <strong>many cases are not listed correctly, and the murder is overlooked, evidence swept under the rug.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Colorado&#8217;s coroner system needs to change,<\/strong> and that would require new legislation. \u00a0It is not impossible for that to happen and it is <strong>needed<\/strong> <strong>ASAP<\/strong> <strong>if justice is important!<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>What if your loved one was the victim of murder, and the coroner turned a blind eye, swept it under the rug with a ruling of Natural Causes, Suicide or Accidental death?
