Learn the realities of this crime. \u00a0Visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stalkingawarenessmonth.org\">stalkingawarenessmonth.org<\/a> for more info.<\/p>\n<p>Astoundingly, 6.6 million people were stalked in one year in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>What would you say to a friend who told you they were being stalked?<\/p>\n<p>Stalking: It\u2019s not a joke. It\u2019s not romantic. It\u2019s not ok. It\u2019s a crime.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Although women are more likely to be stalked than men, anyone can be a victim of stalking.<\/p>\n<p>1 in 4 women and 1 in 13 men will be victims of stalking in their lifetime.<\/p>\n<p>Stalking is a crime in all 50 states, DC, &amp; the territories.<\/p>\n<p>Individuals identifying as more than one race or American Indian\/Alaska Native experience higher rates of stalking<\/p>\n<p>On average stalking lasts about 2 years; intimate partner stalking lasts longer.<\/p>\n<p>About 14% of stalking victims are age 50 or older. What unique challenges might older victims face?<\/p>\n<p>Intimate partner stalking is the most common type of stalking and the most dangerous.<br \/>\nVisit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.victimsofcrime.org\/src\">www.victimsofcrime.org\/src<\/a> for more info.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div title=\"Page 2\">\n<div>\n<p>Try this: Google \u201ctrack girlfriend\u201d and see how many sites tell someone how to stalk.<\/p>\n<p>Phones, computers, GPS, and cameras are some of the common forms of technology used by stalkers.<\/p>\n<p>What messages about stalking are in the media? Tweet us what you see.<\/p>\n<p>Rates of stalking among college students are higher than the general public.<\/p>\n<p>How young can stalking behavior start? Do you see stalking behaviors among high school students? Middle school students? Younger?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFreedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed. \u2013 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.<\/p>\n<p>In the majority of cases of intimate partner stalking, the stalking behavior is established during the relationship.<\/p>\n<p>3\u20444 of stalking victims experience other forms of violence, including sexual and\/or physical assault.<\/p>\n<p>LGBTQ stalking victims may face additional barriers to getting help.<\/p>\n<p>Stalking can affect a victim\u2019s emotional, physical, and economic well-being.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Would you report to police if you were being stalked? Most victims don\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>Stalkers often access information about victims that is available online. Do you know what information about you is online?<\/p>\n<p>Victims of stalking are encouraged to keep a log of all stalking behaviors including emails, texts &amp; phone messages.<\/p>\n<p>It is important to consider how to victims may be harmed by stalkers\u2019 use of technology.<\/p>\n<p>The majority of stalking victims report losing time from work as well as income because of the stalking.<\/p>\n<p>Stalking: Know it.
