Was it Arrogance, or Something Worse?

Just What is Going on Here?

Just What is Going on Here?

I feel like I am re-writing the entire stalking case for the third time!  First I compiled what evidence we collected into a timeline, day-by-day because Morgan’s stalking was not once a month – it was almost every day, and sometimes two or three times a day.  Then a year later, I wrote a blog from my notes.  And after all that, with help from the Honorable DA to enforce the Colorado Open Records Act, I finally got Sheriff’s reports, and I was sickened.  But rather than explain that – let me give you an example, just one single example.

It was early November, after 68 days of nothing but different Sheriff’s Patrol Officers coming to our house every time we had an incident, never taking evidence, when Colorado law calls for quick intervention before stalking can escalate into something more serious, we were finally assigned a Felony Stalking Detective and a case number.  We were always encouraged to call dispatch, and not 911, whenever anything happened, because it was easier for them, and so we did.   Now I know why – but that is for another blog.  Keenan VanGinkel, and Brooke Harris were the suspects, a fact known through the neighborhood, to Morgan, as well as by the Sheriff’s Department.  And if you ever watched Brooke’s dad, James Harris on the Dr. Phil show exclaim that he knew nothing about a stalking – click here – for my response.  And now, on to that single example.

Keenan was traveling to a hunting trip in Texas, a fact we would find out from neighbors soon enough, and it would be a busy night in our neighborhood.  After nightfall a person walked from the back door of the house James, and Brooke Harris were living in, along the edge of the berm in our backyard, turning and coming up to the corner of the our house, right where an Aspen tree stood against the back corner of our house – we would later learn it was used to climb up onto the roof – and then this person doubled back over the berm, stopped to send a text message or two, and then came back over the berm, walked alongside our house, across our driveway and front yard, across our next door neighbor’s driveway and front yard, to just before the Harris’ house.  Then a car (seen on our camera) left the neighborhood from the direction of Brooke’s house.

How do I know this? Or, where’s the proof…as Brooke would say. Well that is simple.  It snowed that night, starting an hour before the walk, or march as it became known as, about two to three inches of thick, heavy snow.  A very odd storm actually, as if it happened just to catch the events of the night.  Our video surveillance camera mounted up on the eaves was high enough to clearly show the person texting from behind the berm. (Please note that I told our Felony Stalking Detective about the text caught on camera and showed him, and asked right then and there if he could get Brooke’s cell phone records, because our camera caught the exact time of the text, and he could see who she sent the text to – and if it was her on camera, but he told me it is almost impossible to get those kind of records, and he would not be able to obtain them).  Other cameras would show the person, whom everyone who has seen the camera footage believes is a female, and not Keenan.  So not only did we have the footprints with a very visible trail the next day, but our cameras captured good footage of the event as well as a car departing at the end of the “march” or can we say alibi?  Evidence.

This series of events included everything except the usual terror.  No tapping or banging on Morgan’s window.  No footprints up against the house while the predator tried to peer into Morgan’s windows, only footprints right up to our Master bedroom window.  No scraping noises, no beeping of the front door lock.  Steve and I slept through it all, as did Morgan, and until I saw the tracks through the snow in the morning we didn’t even know it had happened.  Then it became more and more sinister, from every angle.

I called dispatch and then Steve, and he came home from work, easily arriving twenty minutes before the responding Garfield County Deputy.  Enough time (before the footprints melted) to start on a map of the trail (from a safe distance) that the footprints took – from start to finish, including the tire tracks.  He finished the map with the Deputy after he finally came to our house, while walking with the Deputy around the entire trail, absolutely no doubt that it started at the Harris’s house, and then went to various places at our house then circled the front and stopped where a car had been parked.  If fact here is a second map Steve drew up for the Detective after the map he gave the Patrol Deputy was, “misplaced.” Map given to Detective Glassmire

After the Deputy looked and nodded he left, but nothing else.  Not so much as a knock on the Harris’ door to ask about this trail that started at their back door, in the middle of a felony stalking case at the house the trail led to, and circled.  But all was not lost, I realized that the Sheriff’s wildlife camera had just been moved to the perfect spot to catch this walk, right along the berm, it could not have missed.  I called Detective Glassmire to tell him the very potentially revealing news and expected he would come right over to retrieve the pictures of this suspect, but he would not, saying he was very busy and he would do it when he came on his regular Sunday meeting.  He would later cancel the regular Sunday meeting for a week, which meant not reviewing the camera pictures for another week also.  Then the day finally came and we were excited that we were going to see the pictures on the Sheriff’s camera.  The moment Detective Glassmire looked down at Steve and I from atop our ladder and said there were no pictures, the batteries must be dead, we just crumbled – how could this be?

A few days after the walk recorded in the snow, Keenan, all the way in Texas still, officially no longer dating Brooke for many weeks, and moved out long before this happened, was on a facebook conversation and said he had, ”heard,” about the stalker at our house, but it could not be him because he was in a truck headed for Texas at the time it happened.

Just days after that, Steve and I pulled alongside our subdivision road for a rather impromptu conversation with Brooke and her friends, as they walked down the street, we were talking about the stalker – now, for the record, this would be exactly the only time ever, we were talking to Brooke in the subdivision, about anything – and Brooke just had to tell us that she had “heard” that there was new video evidence that exonerated her boyfriend Keenan as the stalker.  And I have to say it – the stalker that she didn’t know that we had, and wasn’t dating, and was not being harassed by as her father James thought, that was someone else. ????

So, sinister, malfeasance, incompetence. guilty as guilty can be, you decide.

But:

  1. The trail started right at the Harris’ back door, at the beginning of month four of a Felony Stalking case, and nobody, Deputy or Detective questions anybody about anything related to this incident?
  2. There are tire tracks preserved in the snow, and nobody, Deputy, or Detective orders or makes a cast of them?
  3. Keenan knows about the, “stalking incident that proves it’s not him,” within hours of the event and brags about it on Facebook – all relayed to the Detective, but no questions, no report, no copies of what was said, nothing.
  4. Brooke knows there is new video evidence that exonerates her boyfriend, or ex-boyfriend, before Steve and I have even had a chance to review all the footage, and send it on to the Sheriff’s Department, as was our normal procedure.  How did Brooke know about this so soon after?  Who told her?  Was she the one on camera like I suspect?
  5. Why does the Detective in a Felony Stalking case not rush out to review the camera for timely evidence, and a possible arrest, or at least come the next day, but instead he waits almost two weeks only to find out the batteries are dead in his camera and there is nothing?
  6. Why did our batteries in every wildlife camera we purchased last the entire four months of the stalking before being recycled into another use with plenty of life left in them, and the Sheriff’s batteries went dead in a few weeks?
  7. Whatever happened to the first map that Steve drew for the Deputy, and reviewed on scene that same day with the Deputy, before the snow melted?  I mean should he have had the Deputy sign a copy and we maintain all the evidence ourselves?
  8. Why were phone records for the suspects for that day never even requested?  If Brooke wanted to prove her innocence it would be a great start.  It would be a tiny part of their records because we could tell right to the second when the person behind the berm was texting.
  9. AND, why is there no Garfield County Sheriff’s Department official report of this stalking report???
  10. And remember this is just one example, just one.
  11. Were it not for the keen memories of Brooke talking to us in the subdivision, and Keenan talking about it on a private message to one of Morgan’s friends on Facebook – it’s as if it never even happened.  Except it did happen, Steve and I were there.  Morgan was there too, only our daughter Morgan is now dead…

March 1st – 15th of 2012, Day 76 – 90 of Morgan’s Investigation – I should be saying our investigation at this point!

Thursday, March 1st

11:30 am we met with Dr. Lonnie Zeltzer in California, she has now reviewed all of Morgan’s past and present medical history as well as the PER and Tox results, and the infamous page that explains a 7,909 ng/ml blood level of amitriptyline as “insignificant”, courtesy of Dr. Kurtzman, and she believes Morgan died when her heart stopped for only a few seconds, then her lungs would have automatically filled up with fluid and this would have been enough to kill her. She believes at this point the stress and fear of the stalker was the cause of her death and offers to talk with our Pathologist to improve the state of Pathology in Colorado. She feels that, without a doubt, Morgan’s death is a homicide. Steve and I were mere neophytes at this process of justice back then, we walked out of that meeting not even beginning to grasp the battle that has, and will ensue for our daughter, and all of the other victims laid to rest under a veil of lies.

UCLA Medical Center is nothing less than amazing.  It is what is known as a teaching hospital.  Some of the finest doctors in this nation have graduated from there, and the teaching never stops, improving your knowledge throughout your career as a medical professional. The absolute latest, life saving greatest, and there is a reason people travel without question to go there. From personal family experience USC is equally amazing as is the Mayo Clinic, well you have to see it to believe it, it is a small city unto itself.

I know there are a few with a very deep vested interest that this is not true, but Steve and I now know, without a doubt, in March of 2013 that she was murdered, first with a massive over-kill dose of amitriptyline, and at this time her death was still being called natural causes.  And thanks to Dr. Zeltzer, and the others she called upon to confer their opinion, even if she had not had the massive amount in her system of amitriptyline she still would have been a homicide victim, because of her stalker.

That afternoon we were, to say at the least, very shook up to hear all of this about our daughter.

At 3:00 pm we went to Steve’s appointment with his doctor in California.  Just in case you wonder why, after doctor’s across Colorado shook their heads solemnly at his chances years ago, specialists at USC had a different outlook, and we are endlessly grateful to have listened to those with the knowledge and the latest, life saving greatest, expertise. If only the one man involved in Morgan’s death had been as willing…if he had listened to these experts because they do know – they are at the epicenters of research, they are not pompous, condescending, they want the best for all, believe me, we are indebted to the passion with which they conduct their chosen profession, often without even ever knowing it.

Friday, March 2nd

10:30 am we went to meet and speak with Jennifer Shaffer – http://www.jennifershaffer.com – Clairvoyant Medium & Psychic Investigator/Profiler – for the first time. Jennifer works with individuals, families, and police departments and has also worked with the FBI.  As a Psychic Medium Investigator she profiles suspects and locates missing loved ones through remote viewing. She spoke with us for over 4 hours – we were shocked at how time flew…we were told about her by a mutual friend, and she did not charge anything for her time – she says she does this type of work as a way of giving back. She was so sweet and kind, and not anything like I expected. Of course Steve and Morgan’s older sister were sitting at the table being very quiet, stiff and skeptical – which is a good thing, I believe when presented with someone you do not know, you should not automatically trust them. They now have come to know, and love Jennifer for the wonderful, and very gifted person she is.

I can not, and should not tell you everything she told us during that 4 hour period, but I can mention a few things. She said Morgan is in a beautiful place – it has a bright light, it is a very clean place (I laughed when she said that, because the morning we found her body her room was extra extremely disheveled, she is with all her animals around her (those that have passed before her and were waiting for her), Jennifer describes the stalker as skinny, dark thick hair, very scary and confirms the name Keenan is the stalker, he was in her room, his back to her closet door, she is seeing a window, he is watching her sleep. It continues on from there, but what I would like to tell you all is that so far all the information Jennifer has given us, as far as clues, or evidence goes has been confirmed 100% so even though a psychic’s testimony might not hold up in court they are just like any other witness – they can provide, as Jennifer herself calls them, just leads, and when law enforcement acts on those leads, and makes discoveries, that does become admissible. A good little system of checks and balances wouldn’t you say?

Saturday, March 3rd

We went up to the wine country, made famous by the movie Sideways with our daughter, her husband, and Steve’s best friend. It was really hard to pretend to be happy and to be in the moment but honestly being with people you love does help, and being by the ocean for part of the day helped a lot too, as it has such a grounding effect.

And then I received an email from my friend. She said simply – “We have to make sure Morgan is heard.” She believes when the word is out front and center, we will have the footing to push for a better protocol, even law (then what they have now), and a better registry system – same as with sex offenders.

I then received an email from Jennifer:

I know that Morgan wants everything that you said – to happen – her story needs to be out there and I know it will be a game changer for the future lives of other young girls who are helpless….. I know it might be a long, tough road ahead of us, but I also know that if any group can make this happen we can.

Your strength, Toni, is what has fueled this unfoldment into something that will help so many others. Your whole family is going to see this through.

What an amazing family – thanks again for bringing me into this ___, it is an honor to be part of a future where there will be more accountability, protection and eventually peaceful resolution with some closure.

Please keep me in this loop and call on me for anything. I love Morgan and I will make sure she can always be heard….

Sunday, March 4th

I spoke with our good friend (former Federal Special Agent) while driving to Steve’s brother and sister-in-laws house for a family dinner. We slept over at their house tonight. Steve’s brother will work on the website, and our sister-in-law has offered to help edit all written content. Steve and I do not really know what “it” is, but it is happening fast.

Monday, March 5th

Steve and I drive back to our daughter’s house tonight

Tuesday, March 6th

We returned the rental car, and we flew back to Aspen today. We picked up our pets, checked the mail boxes, went to the grocery store, and hardware store on our way home.

Wednesday, March 7th

I spoke with Thomas Walton at Farnum Holt Funeral Home about three errors in the Postmortem Examination Report – got his email to send him the edits.

I left a voice message for Dr. Kurtzman in order to get his email address for Dr. Zeltzer, I also emailed Dr. Zeltzer with Dr. Kurtzman’s fax # to send the info to him, that way just in case he doesn’t “do” email (as his secretary/assistant has told me over the phone) he will still get the information.  Dr. Kurtzman calls back in late afternoon – gives me his email for Dr. Zeltzer, scoffs at the notion that he does not “do” email, and asks me where I got that idea, I don’t tell, and accept the mistake as my own. I also left a voice message for the last doctor that Morgan saw, an educated guess, 34 hours before her death, to call me – and asked if they have they spoken with Dr. Kurtzman yet?  Detective Glassmire calls later on and we update each other. He tells us about the interview he is trying to have with Keenan about the picture up our driveway on October 18th to tell him that he knows its him in the picture.  We go to see our son, and his family and to tell them about all of the details from our California trip.

At 5:02 pm, Detective Alstatt sent a text, “Just got your message. Sorry had no service, was teaching at CMC. Detective Glassmire said he reached you. Hope all is well.”

Thursday, March 8th

Spoke with Morgan’s doctor – she says Dr. Kurtzman has not called her yet (I can’t believe he hasn’t called her yet, because we asked him to call her right after Morgan died for his notes, so he would know what Morgan’s doctor could report about that exam, and how she thought Morgan was doing). Dr. Zeltzer calls and tells us she should have all the material to email Dr. Kurtzman on Monday. Farnum Holt calls to say they can’t make any edits to the Coroner’s Report until they speak with Detective Glassmire & Dr. Kurtzman. This is of course just one of the many, “run arounds”, the two he must call are the very two who have told us to just tell him! They have told us independently that, “of course you are the ones who found her, and know these things, it is without question”. Well even her body position when we found her is still wrong, the FBI tells us there is no law against incompetence and I say, at what point does incompetence become something else altogether?

I never hear back from Farnum Holt again after that – they never sent us anything to confirm that they made any changes. We are now in the big endless loop of no communication whatsoever on their part, is this their way of dealing with things? The Coroner has never answered a call, but now it is across the board.  Do they think maybe we will just go away and just drop it, is that why I get so many emails from other people in this valley saying they wish they had stayed with it like Steve and I have? And the very notion of going away, after the week we just had in California, our daughter dead and the potential killer still free to prey upon the valley?…is beyond doubtful.

At 6:37 pm, I sent a text message to Detective Alstatt, “No problem – I spoke with Detective Glassmire. I am doing fine. Steve is having a harder time, but I feel like I can keep moving forward with things. Take care!” Detective Alstatt responded back, “you too :)”

Friday, March 9th

11:00 am, I meet with Dr. Knaus, Morgan’s PCP (to let him know Dr. Kurtzman might call him). Tracy (our new neighbor) comes over and we tell her about the California trip.

Went to our son’s house for dinner tonight.

Saturday, March 10th

Our son’s family comes over to the house for breakfast this morning.

Steve and I leave for St. Mary’s Glacier, just this side of Idaho Springs and arrive at 5:30 pm by the Mine in Idaho Springs to meet with our friend (retired Federal Special Agent) to discuss the latest on Morgan’s case.

Sunday, March 11th

We return from Idaho Springs this afternoon.

I was sent the following links today from a family member:

She feels we should look more into Involuntary Manslaughter.

Monday, March 12th

Steve finds a blade under the tree at 62 Corral Drive where we found saw something else previously – N saw details on the roof, Steve took and bagged the red chair with permission from Ken’s house as well.

Detective Alstatt is on her way over to collect evidence, some kind of double sided blade has been found under the tree at 62 Corral Drive right under the previous evidence that was already put into evidence.  At 4:09 pm Detective Alstatt sent a text, “Hey going back an forth with Detective Glassmire via text. He’s out of state and I just got done with interviewing a kiddo. Left a message for Steve. Trying to get hold of him….” Detective Glassmire sent me an email. I answered and told him we will make a list, and try to find pictures of any of Morgan’s missing items, like her items of clothing and jewelry.

Detective Glassmire wants me to have Steve look over cell phone bills, and let him know if we notice anything on a particular subject on the billing for the cell phone records. I’m certainly interested in knowing.

Jennifer calls and says she keeps seeing a water bottle (she didn’t know but Morgan always had her glass or metal water bottles with her in the car, and D said she was drinking only water all afternoon on that last day (he thinks from her glass bottle – we had two old cool looking, vodka bottles with snap on lids that we saved and Morgan liked to drink water out of, because she thought the water tasted better out of a glass bottle than out of a metal bottle) Jennifer thinks the water bottle had something in it that was slowly poisoning Morgan. She believes someone was doing this to her along with stalking her.

Tuesday, March 13th

I speak with the CBI as to how they can be brought into an investigation, and Patty at CBI says they have to be requested by local law enforcement. Toni sent Detective Alstatt a text at 1:35 pm “Megan please call me when you can – I just received an upsetting phone call Thanks” Megan responded “give me 5 minutes” I said “No problem thanks” This was about something I just heard about a new stalking going on.

Wednesday, March 14th

Diana Ross’ daughter Amanda was stalked, and shot when she walked out her front door. Diana was on Good Morning America, 20/20 trying to get the law changed so when you do take out a restraining order then there is a GPS tracker bracelet put on the stalker, and you will know if he is around. The Cynthia L. Bischos bracelet the Cindy Bracelet – L— is finding out if they can help with anti-stalking laws.

Thursday, March 15th

Steve and I go over to our old neighbors house and take pictures of the roof over Morgan’s old bedroom window, we are now convinced this is how the stalker avoided detection and was able to easily look into Morgan’s upper windows, and tap on her windows to scare her and never be seen. We also took pictures of the tree the stalker climbed up to the roof (very easily) and at the same point of the yard that the motion detector lights would always come on at night. I would hear scraping on the ceiling sometimes at night too, but thought it was birds or a mouse or squirrel. Boy was I wrong, and now that I have heard from so many people about someone living in their attic, or crawl space of their house unbeknownst to them I now know if you hear something on your roof at night you should just check it out. Have your local Law Enforcement check it out too, and of course let all the neighbors know. The price for the smallest oversight can become very, very large. Wasn’t it our grandmothers who told us that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure?  Mine did, more than once, and I love you Nana.

What happens along the path in the search for justice?

flower

I really have parallel efforts going on at the same time, and have had for quite a while.  First is the search for justice for Morgan Jennifer (Steve always called her MJ), which ends up being far more frustrating, angering, and convoluted than I ever could have imagined.  If it were not for the unending assistance of those truly interested in solving a crime I don’t know what I would have done, honestly!

The second is the basis, the core of justice.  The search for truth – I always say that the truth never changes, which is a primal belief of mine, that also will never change.  For the truth is elusive when there is a price for revealing it.  In Morgan’s stalking there were of course guilty parties.  Perhaps the same party(s) responsible for the string of stalking and peeping tom incidents in that rather confined area dating back at least four years.

It boggles my mind that this could go on for so long and be a complete mystery to the Garfield Sheriffs Department when they are the ones responding to the incidents as they are called in.  There is a reason for that, and I am trying not to allow it to be a concern of mine at the moment, so I am very aware of it, but I try to put it on my back burner for now, and it is very hard to do.  Knowing all these people now who were also victims of peeping toms and terrorization, seeing how it is still a fresh wound for them even after years makes me really want to scream at someone sometimes.

So, largely with Steve’s help I focus on the truth of what happened to Morgan.  The guilty parties will never be willing to tell the truth, that is obvious, and just for starters if they did it would be a confession, something they seek to avoid at all costs.  And if you think you have gotten away with it, well then maintaining silence on a few key facts, becomes all so important.

So therein lies the problem for the perpetrators, the truth must never come out, and if it should, go immediately to plan B, deny, deny, deny.  But they do not just stop there, the perps go on the offensive and attack anyone that is simply thinking, hey this does not quite add up, maybe it should be looked into, maybe, just maybe, Morgan’s case deserves at least a little more looking into.  Verbalize just that single thought and, “Katie bar the door,” you are fair game for whatever may be slung your way, and it seems that it will.

Furthering this is a disturbing trend for the perp to go to the courts and sue the victim(s) of the crime.  It has become such a problem that states around the country have already or are enacting laws to prevent this from happening.  Just google criminals suing victims, I read about a man up on a roof (not his roof of course) and he fell through the skylight.  Then it became not, what was he doing over the skylight, peeping tom perhaps?  And basically instead he sued for the skylight not supporting his weight and allowing him to fall through and get hurt, no mention of caught in the act, or what were you doing up there anyway?  To me it is more than crazy, it’s criminal.  But somehow that’s redundant, isn’t it?

Steve and I were the recipients of frivolous prosecution.  A TRO based on the fear that my blog was creating.  Our attorney suggested that they just not read it, if it caused them any fear at all.  Along this trail of justice, I removed first the names of the scared parties, and I refused to allow any of these distractions or negative energies affect me or slow me down.

I want to point out that I have been asked a few times by people to take their name out of the blog and replace it with their initials, modify a picture that revealed something they would have wished was not, and every time I have said no problem and done it.  I also have a page on Morgan’s website (that this blog is a part of) that clearly explains if you feel that there is any inaccuracy you find please bring it to my attention and I will deal with it.  Nobody has ever clicked that link to report an inaccuracy.  I would be naïve to think that I might get a few now, so fair warning, if you complain using twelve different names, all from the same IP address, I have a spam button and I will press it, that is if it hasn’t already been pressed in your honor, your second of harassment.

Now, back to the course of justice for Morgan, after removing all the names of the scared parties that was not enough.  I then had to remove all their initials and they became question marks.  Now just so there is no doubt one of these people, Brooke Harris was another prime suspect of the detectives very soon after they began to investigate, and soon after if it was her or Keenan Vanginkel that was the ringleader, it took time for the detectives to sort them out.

Another of the “frightened” people admitted to one of his clients that the Sheriffs used to think he was the stalker, but that now they knew it was his daughter’s ex-boyfriend.  Luckily for Morgan, this client felt that a truth like that had to be shared, not hidden at all costs.

If fact all parties seeking this TRO, to be followed by a permanent restraining order, had some documented involvement in Morgan’s stalking.  After she was killed they, “clammed up”, as they say.  Resorting to the now famous, “where’s the proof”?  I guess the fact that even her father is telling people that the Sheriffs used to think it was him, but now they know its her ex-boyfriend conveniently escapes her, along with the fact that in most solved murders the perp is not caught at the scene with murder with weapon in hand.  They are apprehended after investigation, many times extensive, slow, and agonizing investigation.  And Morgan knows that however long her investigation for the truth takes – Steve and I are all in.

I firmly believe that wherever she is now, Morgan also knows that we intend to help however many victims we can, avoid the peeping toms, the stalkers, and the horrific murderers that lurk and ply their trade without conscience, terrorizing so many innocent victims, for years and years in some cases.  And I also firmly believe that Morgan is very happy and thankful that Steve and I do this.

So as this trail of justice wound to an end, the counsel for those seeking a TRO suddenly recused himself from the case.  And then eventually it was dismissed completely.  In the end, they wanted my blog taken down because their names were in it – but their names are in it because they were a part of the events that unfolded, part of the truth, and it never changes.  My neighbor who sells fabulous wines, and tried so hard to help us, as the crime was ongoing, doesn’t mind if I put her name in when it was she that saw something I talked about, or her very macho dog, that barked his heart out to warn us, and tried his best to help protect Morgan.  Is it just me or is it obvious that when some have such a problem with their name associated with something they said or did – there might be a reason? Just an observation here.

I don’t think I ever spoke a word in our first court experience, but if I had, I would have said that I am really not trying to frighten anyone with Morgan’s blog about her stalking and murder.  I am telling the truth, and some of it comes after painstaking work over a long period of time.  Little ends are still falling into place and this is day 477 of Morgan’s murder investigation.  Like I said Steve and I are all in, we didn’t choose this, but now we fight for our little girl.

On March 22, 2011 Morgan sent me the following Facebook message:

I miss my youngest baby, Morgan – it seems too cruel that her life was stolen from her.  She was the sweetest person I have ever been around in my whole life, and I miss her with all my heart!

Many years ago, almost in a different life it seems, Steve was involved in a little investigation.  A simple case of being in the right place at the right time to his thinking, not the wrong place at the wrong time as some suggested at the time to him.  Steve asked me if it bothered me that he was involved, and it could conceivably cause some danger for us.  Without a seconds thought I told him that, “if you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem”.  Then the bonehead told me that was good, because he was going to do it either way, but it was great I had said that to him.

Now it is so wonderfully refreshing that along the search for truth for my dearest daughter Morgan Jennifer, I have met people who embrace this thought, that – if you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem, and they have shared that little part of the truth they know.  And so many others have spent their time to do what they are best at, and find truth for Morgan where I lack the years of training and expertise they have, and would have otherwise never known about Morgan’s stalking and murder.  For all of these people I am eternally grateful.  It is what helps shape the world into a better place for us all, and I hope, that even if it’s somewhere deep inside of us, we all know it.

K’s court date – V J wanted to be there instead of us and she thought it should be on a Wednesday, not a Thursday because of the charge.  She said court starts at 8:30 am and suggested we talk to Detective Glassmire & Detective Alstatt and they should speak with the Glenwood Police so the Police and the Judge know he is also being investigated for Morgan’s stalking case – it shouldn’t look like he is squeaky clean and this is his only one mistake!  Detective Glassmire said Trent Cook is the Manager at City Market that vouched for Keenan and told him that K is an ideal employee and squeaky clean, never did drugs, and has never been in trouble.  Really?  Obviously we were not talking about the same person here.  I wonder if they have standards at City Market, like who can be a checker and request your daughters drivers license because she is buying products that you have to be eighteen to purchase?

Friday, February 17th

Not much of anything important happened today.

Saturday, Februrary 18th

Our son and his family have a sleep over and a movie night tonight at our house – it’s nice to have kids around and noise in the house again, even if only for one night.

Sunday, February 19th and Monday, February 20th

Not much happened.

 Tuesday, February 21st

Called and spoke with Detective Glassmire – he gave me the name of the man that owns the truck/SUV that we saw slowly cruising our neighborhood before Morgan died and every time we tried to pull out to catch it, it would take off.  One time we were close enough to see in through the tinted windows of the driver’s side, and we viewed a young male with dark hair and sunglasses.  The name was not familiar to us so that evening we googled the owner’s name, and it was not him in the car.  He is about our age, came to the valley in the 70’s like us and then we checked and he does have a son named DS (DR knows him and says he is a good guy, maybe it is his truck and just registered in his father’s name).  DS sounds like he is about 24 years old.  Does he know K? (K used to live in the valley close to Basalt when he was younger before his parents’ divorce, he went to the same church that we had Morgan’s memorial service at, he also went to school there with people Morgan knew very well).  Did this DS work at City Market, and did he unknowingly lend his car to K, was he an unwitting pawn in the crime somehow?  K surely knew everyone was watching out for his little green car after he moved out of Aspen Equestrian Estates neighborhood.  There are live video surveillance cameras all around City Market, even in the back where the employees park – why didn’t K’s manager offer up footage to Detective Glassmire as evidence that K did not leave during the times Morgan was terrorized?  The manager never even mentioned the cameras to Detective Glassmire.  We told the detective about the cameras and he was surprised to discover they had them.

Wednesday, February 22nd

Today I am updating this time sheet – I have been so busy with work, I haven’t been able to put much detail into it.

Thursday, February 23rd

At 10:14 am I emailed Detective Glassmire with the call in # for Dr. Kurtzman, and himself for Monday’s conference call with Steve and I at 4:00 pm.  We are going to California for a meeting with Morgan’s Doctor at UCLA and want to talk over exactly what is important and what we need to move forward on the possible influence the stalking had on her death.

 Friday, February 24th

Mogwai (Morgan’s cat) woke me up around 2:00 am by petting my face and saying “Nana”!  This completely freaked me out.  I have never been a cat person (although I love all animals) I am more of a dog person I guess you can say.  So when Mogwai woke me up like that, I jumped out of bed – he went flying and was not very happy with me.  I guess Mogwai has always been a talker, but that was just a little over the top for me.

Steve has been having such bad chest pains and my sister D emails me article from Johns Hopkins http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/Press_releases/2005/02_10_05.html

I went to have my hair cut today – I had not seen my hairdresser/friend since 2 weeks before Morgan was murdered, when she had cut Morgan’s hair.  That same day she said Morgan looked like her stalker was “sucking the life out of her”, and this had made her very angry that day.  Maybe that is why I took those pictures of Morgan, right after she had her hair cut, just 2 weeks before she was murdered.  When you see someone every day, and your whole life has been turned upside down from being woken up at all hours of the night, you tend to not see what is right in front of you, but that day,  I must have intuitively known to take those pictures with my cell phone, because of what I had just heard that day.  Now when I look back on those pictures of Morgan I can see how exhausted she was and what a toll this had taken…she was trying so hard to keep with her happy demeanor, but on that afternoon you could see just how much it was getting to her, what a toll it was all taking on her health.

Saturday, February 25th

Gary Katzenberger (the head of the Theatre Dept. at CMC) spoke to me about Morgan – she had been his student in Philosophy and Comparative Religions, etc., and after we spoke about the Scholarship fund we had set up in Morgan’s name he then told me about a woman from GWS – he said she is a published writer and might help do a book about what happened to Morgan and maybe they can do a play at CMC to bring about stalker awareness.  I told him I would love to do that at some point in time – if we could get information about stalking out to not only the general public, but also to high schools and college age students that would be wonderful.

Sunday, February 26th

Sent Detective Glassmire a text with TK’s cell #.  Also asked him to call her.  He texted me back that he was sick, but would be in on the Monday call with Dr. Kurtzman

Had a big dinner party at our house tonight.  I am starting to get the picture that all these wonderful friends of Morgan’s, everyone in our family, and a lot of our friends are trying to make sure we don’t just turtle from life and hold up in the house by ourselves, so they keep making lunch and dinner dates over at our house to keep us company.  It’s so nice of them, honestly if it weren’t for them we would have really would want to just curl up in a ball and disappear at times.  Mogwai looked at Wylah, and said “Wylah” again tonight when we went to bed.  I can’t believe that cat keeps talking like this – it’s a little strange…

Monday, February 27th

Went to Aspen for a meeting this morning – stopped by to pick up mail on the way home, then got a strange feeling, and went through the El Jebel City Market parking lot to look for K’s car.  His car was there so I took more pictures of the front, back and driver’s side of the car.   It looked to me exactly like the car that came up our driveway the night Morgan was alone and our cameras caught someone coming up our driveway.

At 4:15 pm Steve and I had a conference call with Detective Rob Glassmire & Dr. Kurtzman (Forensic Pathologist).  Then Dr. Kurtzman sent me a fax directly following our call.

Tuesday, February 28th

Got fax from Dr. Kurtzman’s office again as well as the last of the records from Valley View hospital and a GWS doctor of Morgan’s to bring to Dr. Zeltzer in California.  The fax was concerning her postmortem Amitriptyline blood levels, and how they were insignificant.

Wednesday, February 29th

Steve and I flew to Los Angeles for meetings today.
